My 'hot' date.....

was a lot of fun!  We met at 'Mimi's' for supper. That's a popular Italian restaurant by the Tucson Mall.  I offered to meet Sergio half-way, as Tucson is a really big city and I live in the northeast 'burb of Oro Valley.  Our final destination was to be a hall in the south end. And the Tucson Mall is just straight down Oracle Rd--I can't get lost!    (My lack of sense of direction is legendary in my whole family!)

Anyway--Sergio suggested we share the appetizer of coconut shrimp, and it was de-lish!!  I ordered a cup of the house soup--corn chowder, and the 'grilled chicken with fruit and veggies' salad. Sergio ordered the seafood platter. Ya can take the boy off the seacoast (he's from New Joyzie)--but you can't take the sea outta the boy!

After supper we headed to the VFW hall, where the '60s Garage Band' was playing. Yup--that's the name of the band!  And they were  pretty good!  They played mostly 60s tunes, along with some good 40s, 50s, and a few 70s songs. Sergio cuts a pretty decent rug!  I did step on his toes a few times, but he laughed it off, thank goodness!  He says I did okay with the Rhumba and the ChaCha. Heck--I didn't even know we were doing them!    The band shut down at 10:30, and since it was a half hour drive back to my vehicle, we decided to call it a night. Hey--I turn into a pumpkin by midnight!  And I had to get back home, another half hour drive....

I WAS the youngest gal in the house--by decades!!   I think I looked pretty good, and Sergio was quite pleased by that!    He is a really nice guy, very respectful and gallant. He offered me his arm, after he opened the car door for me.  He's one of these guys who has a hand on your back as you head to the dance floor....to steer the way, I guess? He's a true romantic, with the hand kissing and such.   Gees, I DO feel like a school girl!!

Sergio was very up-front with EVERYTHING!  He's looking for a friend, a companion, someone to go dancing with. (Yup--in spite of my 2 left feet! He says I'm teachable!  )  He is a 9-month cancer survivor, having had a 14-hour operation for prostate-that-spread-to-the-colon-cancer. He was just given a clean bill of health...was told he should live to 98!  ((He is 75.)   He says he feels fabulous!  He says because of all THAT, he IS just looking for friendship. He likes to hug and hold hands, to kiss...he says..

Saturday morning at 8:30, he shows up at my sister's place to pick up my BIL as planned, as they had a project they had to work on together. My sister and I both were in our jammies and robes, looking pretty dissheveled, and Sergio said I looked beautiful!  Didn't I say he was a nice guy?!  He told my sister and BIL that we had a WONDERFUL time, that I danced wonderfully, (haha!) and that he hoped we would do it again soon.

So THIS EVENING I called Sergio and asked HIM out for coffee Tuesday morning after my plasma donation appointment, as I will be in HIS neck of the woods, so to speak.   He sounded delighted that I called. I told him to write it on his calendar--and he said I can be his Calendar Girl. And he said 'Good-bye, LOVE.' OOOWWEE!!

The age difference is a little weird, I have to admit. Sergio is a Korean war vet, who used the GI Bill to get an college education--and graduated in 1957--the year I was born!  I'm trying to get my head over the fact that he is old enough to be my father. Our life experiences are way different. He's been married THREE times and shacked up once.  I was married only the one time. And at this stage in my life, do I want to give up the possibility of **you-know-whut**?? Heck, I AM only going to be 52 in June, and have been a born-again virgin since my hubby died over 16 years ago. SORRY--TMI!!   But something I will have to give serious thought to!

ABOUT PLASMA donating--more like SELLING--they have you hop on the scale with your shoes on!!  So of course I weighed over 150 (wore my heavy shoes!) I also had my keys and change in my pockets! So I do get the maximum payment!   And can sell every 3 days if I wanted to--although I have to be careful about my iron level. I was refused the time before today because my hemocrit was 36 and the minimum is 37. I increased my iron pills to get up to 38 today.

So folks--that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!  If you've read all this--thank you. Any advice or comments would be appeciated.

Time will tell what actually transpires. Maybe our ultimate goals will be different. I'm still not 100% sure I will stay here to live, although I sure am loving not having to deal with cold and snow!  I still am job hunting--but Arizona has a lousy economy to be hunting in. ((Who has a better one these days?))

Looks like you found yourself a gentleman.

I don't think the age thing is a huge deal.. it is when it's a 15 year old with a 35 year old... but that's a whole different situation.

Take it one day at a time and have FUN!!! You deserve it!

Congrats to you!!!

Thanks, Elena!

Yup--Sergio is a true gentleman! And it's nice to be appreciated for WHO I am as a person, instead of the labels of 'sister', 'SIL', 'Mom, 'Grandma', etc.  Wait--I guess those labels ARE who I am, but he likes me for 'me'--and he says I'm BEAUTIFUL'--go figger!

And YOU, Missy, are getting more beautiful with every new picture you post!  By that I mean it's so obvious that you are succcessfully working your band!   WTG!

((HUGS)) to you!

Yup--one day at a time...the only way to go.

Sue-

It sounds like you had a fa bulous time with Sergio!  Yeah for you!!  I agree with Elena that the age difference is not a big deal at this point.  Just enjoy the ride.

I hear you about the economy- and I think it is pretty rough all over the nation.  Arizona is a wonderful place to live *my sister and her family live in the Poenix area).
Have fun at coffee tomorrow!

Thanks, Reenie!

I'm still mulling over the age thing. Geez, I thought the fact (when I was 18) that marrying a guy 6 years older than I was a big deal!   And he was 'robbing the cradle'!  Times have changed....I guess the fact that I'm young enough to be his daughter does not bother Sergio.   Maybe it's a reverse status thing???  Anyway--one day at a time...

Arizona has its good points, fer sure!  Today is a typical 'winter day' with an expected HIGH of 55*F--so folks are wearing heavy coats! It is overcast and windy, not the most pleasant day I've encountered here. BUT soooo much nicer than what I'd be having in Thunder Bay!

If you visit your sister in Phoenix, you'll have to let me know so's we could get together!  Phoenix is only an hour and a half drive from here!

It was wonderful to be treated with such respect and gallantly to boot!

Well it sounds like you REALLY enjoyed your date!  And you should have!  I think you should just take Sergio at face value - a companion, and enjoy whatever that brings you.

I ALSO think that as you enjoy this newfound relationship, you'll carry your head higher, wear your smile brighter, and in doing so, maybe even attract someone who has goals or wishes that more closely align with yours?  STRANGER THINGS HAVE HAPPENED!!

  YAY YOU!!
