Hi Minnesota OH'ers!  Sorry that I have been out of touch for so long.  I have been swamped at work out here in Seattle.  I wanted to do my three months post-op update; so far I have lost 100 pounds since last year, when I topped the scales at 380 pounds when I came in for my first round of appointments at Park Nicollet Bariatric Center in February, 2008.  I feel like a million bucks!

Despite being busy, I have managed to find time to work out almost every day.  I am now up to doing 40 minutes of cardio every day, and some circuit weight training that my personal trainer at Lifetime Fitness gave me to do.  I have also started keeping a journal that I obtained on BariatricEating.com to track my exercise, vitamin supplements and protein intake.  I am trying to hit between 75 to 90 grams of protein intake every day.  Here's my three months post-op picture (yes, I am wearing part of a tuxcedo; I am attending a family wedding this weekend in Sacramento and I want to look as good as my wife will since she will be dressed to the nine's in her $2000 Indian outfit; the cost of going from a 54 waistline to a 40 waistline and you have no suits to wear):

I will post some pictures of my wife and I from this weekend when I get them.  Please stay warm and safe back in Minnesota!

You're doing fantastic! Love that you're making the fitness part such a priority. I'm just starting on that part myself.  Great job, keep up the good work!

PS- Your wife is BEAUTIFUL!  Can't wait to see pictures from the weekend with you both all spiffed up.

Yo Alan!!

Did you just say you lost 100 pounds in 3 months?  Where I'm from, you'll have to do a lot of running from the cops to achieve such rapid weight loss.

You and I need to talk my friend.

LOL!  No, I didn't lose 100 pounds in the last 3 months (I wish)!  I had to do 7 months of dietician appointments with my assigned nutirionist at Park Nicollet Bariatric (Julie Pike), as part of getting approved for surgery by my insurance company (Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Minnesota).  Between Julie's guidance and also implementing some new eating habits I learned from taking Diabetes Self-Management Training (I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes after Park Nicollet took my A1C), I managed to go from 380 in February, 2008 to 364 in October, 2008 (my weight when I was approved for surgery).  I did the 10 day liquid protein pre-op diet just prior to my surgery, which took me down to 345 the day of my surgery on 11/11/2008.  So, I technically have lost 65 pounds since my surgery.

I guess this is a "YMMV - Your Mileage May Vary" kind of experience.  I don't know if my results are better or worse than expected, but they are better than I expected when I started this journey a year ago.

CIao!
