Walking shoes?

Can anyone suggest a good place to go to be fit for walking shoes?  I have a really hard time fitting my big ole feet which are between a size 11 and 12 WIDE. (go figure)  I hear there are stores specifically for running, but I tried looking online and didn't see any.  I'd like a place in the south suburbs preferably, but would go where ever.

Have you tried Foot Locker?  I wouldn't spend a ton of $ on shoes just yet, tho - your feet may very well go down in size!  I was 11w, now I can wear 9.5 or 10.

Otherwise I bet Schuler could set you up, but again, they'll probably run you big $$$...  But they can fit darn near anyone!

I haven't been anywhere yet.  I keep running into a problem where if my toes are comfy upfront, my heel slips out in the back. If the heel fits, my toes are crammed or rub.  Freakin feet, this is one part of my body I'll never be happy with, unless of course they shrink like you said they might. (PLEASE PLEASE!!! )

There is a Schuler by me, maybe I'll try that. I always thought they were for specially made shoes, but just checked their website, I was wrong.

This may sound strange but maybe you should wait. My feet went down a whole size and now alot of my shoes don't fit. If you really need shoes don't spend too much.

Ya, I'd rather not spend a ton, but need something comfortable enough so that I don't use my feet as an excuse not to use the treadmill.  I have two pair of shoes I bought a few years ago, tried both out and both felt yucky when I walked. I ended up doing the treadmill with no shoes on and of course that didn't help my already aggravated back.  Ugh!

Kristy-
I too ama Schuler's girl.  I like the New Balance line.  They are spendy, but well worth the money, especially because they fit correctly.  I actually get the Men's for the right width, but you could never tell.  You may want to call and see when the orthotist is there- then they can make sure you have the right insert/lining to keep both your feet and back happy.  PM me if you want more information.

Hey Reenie.  I see they have the foot specialist at the store near me on Saturdays. Conveniently, it's really close to coffee in B'ville. :-)
