RNY surgeon question

I just started this whole journey less than a week ago.  My doctor referred me to Abbott Northwest last week 2/17 and I had my first nut visit on 2/18.

I've been reading up on surgeons and talking to a few people I know and I was wondering if anyone here has had Dr. Edmund Chute at Abbott Northwest Hospital as their RNY surgeon.

I'm waiting to hear from the surgeon's office that they received my referral.

I had my surgery at Abbott NW - but i had Dr. Raymond Drew - Highly recommend him! He is the greatest!

Also have had a friend who had Dr. Michael Schwartz through Abbott and was happy.

Haven't heard much about Chute - he is a protege of Dr. Drew though.

I echo LA's comments, I also had Raymond Drew, but at St. Joe's and he is fantastic.!!!  He performed Dr. Schwartz's RNY ... so that says alot to me!!

:) I work at Abbott, so let me know if you need any info!!

Good Luck! Nicole

I live down in Mankato so I really don't know much about the options up in the cities.

I've heard from several people (my PCP being one of them) that Abbott is a really good place for WLS.

The only surgeon who people I know have gone to was Dr. Chute... or at least the only one people have spoken about so far.  I really want to find a surgeon that I get along with and feel comfortable entrusting my surgery and aftercare.  For instance, I have a pretty good  sense of humor and positive attitude and like to have a doctor/surgeon who listens and is understanding of how difficult the decision is and how rocky the road to surgery can sometimes be.

My PCP is somewhat haughty and distant which bothers me.  He also seems quite

My husband is being a whiner about the 6 months of 'nut' visits I'll have to go through.  I know that some men/people are more impatient by nature than others.  I think he's more worried about me being anxious for 6 months or getting frustrated.  It's a lifestyle change that affects him, too, because he LOVES to cook and to eat and, right now, I wonder if he's worried about giving up some of his favorite things (rice, potatoes, pasta).  Again, this is ME having the surgery not him.

Any and all feedback is appreciated.

One of the things I really liked about Dr. Drew is that he took the time to answer any questions, listened to my concerns and he was really understanding in wanting to help me be successful at this.

I had a good experience at Abbott.

I think that to be successful you have to look at this as a lifelong change - and while the 6 months seems like a long time -it will go by and give you a chance to make gradual changes that will lead to a lifetime of success.

Best wishes on your journey.

Linda

Thank you for all of your replies and support.

6 months does seem like a long time but I think in the end it will definitely be well worth it!

I had my RNY at Abbott on Dec 9th with Dr. Chute.

He is a really nice guy and the anethesiologist told me he was one of the best surgeons on the planet, which made me feel good.

I felt like Dr. Chute gave me special treatment ...... right before surgery he came in and wrapped my legs in ace bandages himself. Wouldn't most surgeons have a nurse do that?

I liked him and I'm happy with my results.
