This is a long post, but if you can spare the time.. it may be worth your while... and it would really warm my heart if you read it. I feel so close to everyone here because of our weight struggle and feel love from all corners of Minnesota when I post.

Four years ago today, my best friend died of a rare cancer. I've talked about her before (on her birthday)...but today I am going to try to do a post that's a little happier. I have to go to the cemetery today, which is really hard for me, and I want to fill my mind with the wonderful memories me and her shared.

From her obituary:
Wallace Miriam "Mimi" M. Wallace, age 19, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 27, 2005. She enjoyed playing volleyball, singing in choir, making people laugh, and volunteering her time on mission trips. She wanted to pursue a teaching career and was accepted to University of Wisconsin, LaCrosse. Her true character, endurance, courage, patience, and perseverance shown through during her tragic encounter with cancer. Her strength came from her trust in God. She is an inspiration to her family, friends, and all who met her and she will be deeply missed. Your legacy of loving others lives on in our hearts, Mimi.

I took care of Mimi almost every day until the day she died and she changed my life for the better. I learned that life is fragile and often short. She taught me that health is invaluable... and was one of the big reasons I pursued WLS. For the first time in my young life I realized that NO HEALTH = NO LIFE. I told her I was going to do everything I could to get healthy... and that I'd live a life for me AND for her. I think Mimi has been with me through every part of this journey. I have some of her clothes (size 6 to 8) that I promised her and myself that I would fit into one day! The day I do... I will cry like a baby.

Anyway... I guess that's it. Below are some photos of the two of us together throughout our lives.

Elena,

The love between the 2 of you shows very clearly in these pictures. You were both very fortunate to have the other in your lives. Though her life was cut short, she lives every day in you. Her beauty and strength have helped you in your struggles with WLS. I am certain she is with you every single day and is so very proud of you.

Strength be with you today as you brave the cold to place flowers on her grave. You are a very lucky young Lady to have those memories and love.

Thanks for sharing more about your friendship with Mimi. It is evident in your pictures what great friends you are.  How exciting to be able to wear some of her clothes one day. I hope you share about that when it happens and maybe post a picture or two.
