1. People who participate in tennis three hours per week cut their risk of death in half from any cause, according to physician Ralph Paffenbarger of Harvard University School of Public Health.

2. Tennis players scored higher in vigor, optimism and self-esteem while scoring lower in depression, anger, confusion, anxiety and tension than other athletes or non-athletes, according to Dr. Joan Finn and colleagues in a study done at Southern Connecticut State University.

3. Since tennis requires alertness and tactical thinking, it may generate new connections between nerves in the brain and thus promote a lifetime of continuing development of the brain, reported scientists at the University of Illinois.

4. Competitive tennis burns more calories than aerobics, inline skating, or cycling, according to studies on caloric expenditures.

Have a GREAT time hitting the slopes Elena!!  I'm sure you will have an absolutely fabulous time!!

I am hitting the gym this morning for a nice long workout and some strength training.  I have to have a fasting blood draw tomorrow morning, so won't make it to the gym.  Gotta make today count!

As for tennis- I wish I wasn't so unccordinated, I don't think I could hit a tennis ball to save my life (unless of course it was one of the giant size ones).  Hmmmmmmmmmm, maybe I will have to get a Wii and try to learn in the privacy of my own living room!!

Enjoy the day!

I did 15 minutes on the treadmill this morning.  Am really struggling even to get that in lately. I skipped it on Friday and Saturday.

I   worked at playng tennis last summer for the very first time in my life last summer. Had my own little ball princess in grees shorts and white T-shirt. She had her own baby tennis racquet.

Anyhow, when it gets warmer, I will play more. It was fun, I got winded but nowhere near what I expected. Between now and then, more walking to strengthen the foot muscles from that surgery I did in Sept.

I also want to get better at throwing and catching the softball. It seem my head is the target for Marlin instead of the glove. LOL.

Oh yeah, walking will help with bike riding, strengthen the leg muscles.
