Pain management
Hello, I am fairly new here, I am starting on the road to WLS, RNY after a battle since last summer to get the ok for surgery due to my Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, I finally have the ok. I met with my surgeon, Dr. Johnson - Fridley, and during my meeting with him I was told that I would no longer be able to take anti-inflammatories. I have been on them for MANY years for pain management and frequent headaches. Tylenol has never "cut it" for me and now I don't know what to do. I have other issues besides being obese and CMT that scare me to not be able to take anti inflammatories. Does anyone have any advice, or has had to make a similar decision/??????

OMG... Hi!!
my name is Renee & i also have CMT!!! I've been looking for someone in my same situation! I'm 38 yrs old & I've been contemplating having surgey for years & have finally decided to seriously persue it.
I have Kaiser & I have my referral in... just waiting to begin this long journey. I'd LOVE to chat w/ you more about this whole WLS & having our type disability,
I have a rather severe case of CMT. My mom has it too, but never has had the same issues as me. Doc says I got a $1.00 worth & my mom got a dimes worth :)
Please message me back as soon as you can. Perhaps we could really support one another?
Take care,
Renee Dodge

Hello Renee, so nice to meet you. Wow what a long road!!! My neuro wouldn't give me the ok, so it took me getting a 2nd opinion and meeting with the surgeon to finally get the go ahead. When you say you have a severe case, what is going on? Have you tested genetically for CMT? My tests didn't show anything, but I go to the MDA clinic at the University of Minnesota and they are certain that's what I have from my symptoms and EMGs and family history of it. I have AFO's on both legs and it affects my hands and lately I am having problems with my elbows as well. I am still able to walk although at times I need a cane. I think that loosing weight will help me with balance and defiantely the joint pain in the parts of my body that compensate for my weakness. Where are you at with the WLS?
