I was 218.9 at first initial appt in January I was 212.5 and I am hovering at 210-211  and I need to be at 208 before I can get the surgery...I just need to get the last few pounds off before meeting with surgeon next Thursday....Any ideas! Eating healthy but have down falls with cookies or going out to eat with family.....The whole reason I have a weight problem life revolving around FOOD!

Your best bet is to go on a liquid only diet. LOTS of us are required to do it. Keep your eye on the prize!

Please spay and neuter your pets!

Ya know tho, the last pound or 2 are hard do your best and I know if you continue to try they will still let you have the surgery.  Keep doing your best and you will be just fine......... Do the liquid diet and that will get those last couple pounds off........ Mnay hugs to you sweetie

Marsha, I met the required 10# the other day at the pre-op meeting, BUT Anna told me that I had to keep it off cuz Dr. Benn would weigh me day of surgery and if I still ain't at goal weight surgery would be cancelled. Was she just trying to scare me or has the doc gotten picky and decided we absolutely need to be at the required weight on surgery date?? Didn't want to mislead people that if they are "close" they will still have surgery????? I am too scared after talking to Anna that if I'm not at goal weight they will send me home.

I would recommend doing protein shakes/liquid diet as well - it will get your body ready for the limited food intake you will have after surgery as well.

As far as the other post about doc's being serious about weight loss - i think they are serious - they want to know you are committed to making the changes needed to be successful after surgery and so that is why they put that 10lb or 10 day liquid diet challenge out there.   I believe there have been those sent home because they didn't meet the requirement.

On the good note - although rather gross - keep in mind you do a bowel prep before surgery - that cleans you out and can shave a little off the scale too.

Best wishes - I know it is exciting getting close to the surgery date.  Yay You for making healthy choices!  You can do this!

As the folks at the clinic would say it is about changing your life style and your committment to this change. The "real" reason Dr. Pierce wants those 10 pounds off is for your own safety. He wants to be able to move around in your stomach with your liver not being in the way. If you have lost the weight he has required, your liver will have shrunk and there is less chance of nicking it during surgery. So keep that in mind, it isn't about them being mean, but keeping you safe. The others are right about the liquid diet. Might as well get started on your new way of life.

Do protein shakes only, or add in 1 frozen meal. For snacks, SF jello or SF popsicles only, I'd stay away from anything cookie/cracker/bread for sure. Do that for a few days and you'll be under 208. Make sure to drink a TON of water too.
