Yet another WOW moment
Hello all!
I had a very moving WOW moment yesterday. I don't mean to sound sappy here, but here's the deal. I moved to Minnesota about 8 years ago. Prior to that I lived in NE Iowa. I have been heavy all of my life, but still was pretty active with walking, biking, swimming, etc. When I moved to Minnesota, I dropped a lot of that. Especially biking. In the past 8 years, I have taken maybe 2 bike rides. The last one was 4 or so years ago and was for about 1 mile and it was unbearable.
Well, one of my long term goals is to again ride this ride across Iowa again called RAGBRAI. I have done it twice before. But that would require me to get back on the bike and get serious about biking again.
After talking to Nicole G and TRex about their bike ride on Monday, I got inspired to get the bike down off the hook, air up the tires, and get on it. It felt so liberating, so exhilarating, so FREEING! The wind was blowing in my hair(through the helmet!) and the I was on the biggest high I have experienced in such a long time! I have to admit I was cruising along with tears in my eyes. I know, stop being maudlin! LOL!
Well, I thought I would just go a little ways for the first time, but I just felt inspired to keep going and going and I think I might have gone 10 miles, maybe further. I have to clock it with the car today, but it just felt great. What was even greater was that I did the entire ride without pain, walking the bike up a hill, or feeling like I was going to die.
There are some days that I forget how far I have come since I have had surgery. Yes, I have lost 150+ pounds and Yes, I look so much different. Some call me a hottie?!?!?! (Elena!) And, YES I can do SO many more things now than I ever could at 409 pounds. It is days like yesterday that I feel like I have gained so much back in my life.
Now, I am going to try to hold it together on my first roller coaster ride this summer. So, if any one you are their with me and you see a tear, no laughing! I won't fall apart too bad!
Thanks for listening...back to your regularly scheduled program!

Ok, Now your making the spring itch set in. I have been thinking about my dusty bike. The repairs I need to make or maybe just get a different one! The seat is to hard and my new found tail bone would not be happy! The handle bars have this thing about turning a different direction then me! and the breaks squeak!! All the excuses to NOT ride over the past couple of years. That will be changing if spring ever gets here LOL
I am so happy for your progress and you enjoying life so much KUDOS to you!

GOOD FOR YOU, MIKE!!!
You have inspired me. I am going to get off my duff this morning and take the dogs for a walk. I am also going to start researching bikes. I have an old bike that needs too much TLC. My goal is to ride a bike to work a few days a week in the summer.
I don't blame you for shedding a few tears - what an awesome reminder of how far you have come

I think it's great you're so pumped up about getting back to bike riding! I'm sure this will be one of your most cherished wow moments of your journey. What a great addition to your daily work out, and it's something you LOVE to boot! I bet you'll have a fantastic time out in CA biking with your friend, and planning to ride again in Iowa.
I'd love to ride a roller coaster with you sometime this summer, after I lose a little more so there's no chance in hell I won't fit. Still paranoid about that, I think once I get under 200 I'll feel much more secure.
Keep up the great work and keep sharing your exciting moments!
