WED: Exercise Thread

Hi everyone, this is Greg, Elena's roommate. She's having a tough recovery so she asked me to post this for you. I know how much you guys mean to her and she really didn't want to miss posting this thread cuz she knows it helps some people. She kinda told me the format, so I'll give it a whirl.

For Elena and me, throughout our years together 'exercise' was something of a taboo term. Calling it something else was about the only way to successfully get our butts on board. Lately though, her recent zeal for exercise has benefited not only her, but our tandem "wiggling and shaking" has helped me combat my own mental fatigue and lack of focus. Exercise, regardless of size (this coming from somebody who been scrawny his entire life) is difficult to get into and make routine. But Elena's doing it and pulling my lazy tush along with.

So how are you moving today? Elena has a walker (the idea of it might not be too sexy, but Elena makes it look quite classy) and she will be walking around the apartment trying to get the joint pain to go away.

2019: 11 years out and maintaining a loss of 150lbs.

Good Morning Greg and Elena-

First let me say thanks to you Greg for posting this thread for our friend Elena.  I'm glad to hear she came out of surgery well, but sorry to hear about the joint pain.
As for exercise- I too thought it was a dirty word for a very long time in my life.  Now I can't imagine my life without it.  I think it is important for for everyone to find a way to move that is gentle to their body and mind- but also challenging.

For me, I will go to the gym this morning and row, bike, walk,go on the eliptical and do some lifting.  I am thankful each day for the people I have met at the gym who help to keep me motivated and my OH buddies who also cheer me on.  It keeps me going back!!

Have a GREAT Day- and Elena, move gently and let yourself rest too!!

Hi Greg, say HI to Elena for me.  Is she home already?

I woke up late so I only managed to get in 15 minutes on the treadmill this morning. Maybe more later.

Greg,

Thanks again for posting this.......

I can just see Elena with the walker.......Tell her, "No taking it on the slopes." Hee hee

Today I already did the treadmill for 30 minutes.......I plan to do it again this afternoon and try a new DVD of Jillians from the Biggest looser, "No more trouble zones."

I have walked a little over three miles outdoors today.  Blustery, but invigorating.  St. Anthony Falls has about a 10 foot standing wave at the bottom of it and musty mist from the waterfall periodically wafts over the Stone Arch Bridge a hundred or so yards away.  Ahhh...springtime.

Heading to the "Y" after dinner. I'll do the treadmill or eliptical then head into the whirlpool.
