My 3 month. VERY unhappy...
I agree, hes a great surgeon! And he does seem to want to help so thats good!
My issue is not the meat I eat, I can eat any kind of meat, beans anything really. Its the amount that he expects me to eat. 1/2 a cup doesnt seem like a lot but I can never get in more then 1/4 unless its salad, or mashed potatoes, or a slider food ya know? He told me none of that, he wants me to eat solids, and meats. He was adamant that I do 1/2 a cup. Not happening tho! I tried twice today to do that much and I just cant. Get sick every time....
Most of my meals last about 25 minutes, Even eating slow as possible getting that amount in does not work.
I will keep trying, and if by Monday, like he said, I still cant get that amount down then Ill go have the scope...

I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV. But let me share with you another program's "plan" -
1/4 cup at 3 months
1/2 cup at 6 months
3/4 cup at 9 months
1 cup at 1 year, up to 1.5 cups per meal there after.
This is what PNC suggests, which fits with where you seem to be. I'm not saying it's right or it's wrong, but just another perspective. Maybe your pouch thinks it's a PNC pouch?
Stress doesn't do anyone any favors - be aware, but don't be too hard on yourself. I've said it before, and I'm pretty sure I'll say it again, this is NOT a one-size-fits-all journey.

Imperfect does not = unsuccessful
See now thats what I thought was normal? But every surgeon has a different idea as to what you should eat and how much. I thought this was working for me, and that I was progressing good, it was kind of a smack when he basically said I wasnt doing good!
I agree, this is NOT a one size fits all. I said that too him too, isnt everyone different in the way their bodies adjust? But you know the docs, they are always right! I really do hate to go in and have something done if I am ok, and I hate stressing about it too. Stress doesnt make this any better!

I can understand why you'd be worried, especially with what happened with your mom. Sounds as though maybe it would be good if they did the scope. What if like with Angela, they found your opening was too small, stretched it a little and poof, you're all better. I'd say a little discomfort will be well worth it.
I'm 3.5 months. Truthfully, I don't eat alot of meat, maybe a few times a week. I was "scolded" at my 3 month check this week for tending to eat the easy stuff like protein shakes and bars. I think you said you had issues with shakes at least early out, are you still having trouble with them?
As far as how much I can eat, I'd say if it's meat, maybe 1/2 of a chicken breast. Maybe 1/3 C of ground beef. I had tuna salad last night, about 1/4 C. How are you with cottage cheese, can you eat that? I didn't used to like it, but it's ok now. I can do 1/2 C of that. Great protein! How about yogurt? Have you tried chili?
I hope things get figured out soon. Keep us posted!

I'm thinking just for piece of mind, Ill go in and have it done if by Sunday I cant do what he expects me to.
Your right, I cant do the shakes, they made me REALLY sick! lol. Doc said not to drink them anymore anyway. I do have some protein powder, I mix with my coffee with a lil milk and that sits good. and I get in over 80g of protein this way!
I have been working on chicken depending on how its cooked and what I use to moisten it I do well with it! You know you have a bad experience with something and it scares you to eat it. My scary is cottage cheese! lol. I ate some one night and got really sick, and it got stuck! I think I ate too fast tho! But I do eat TONS of cheese! I eat cheese with every meal! I have tried chili, it sits good, but boy oh boy does it give me some serious gas!
I do good with meat, hamburger, ham chicken and more. Turkey doesn't like me though! I did buy some plain yogurt, and mix that with a bunch of protein, so it tastes like chocolate, SO I more then get in the protein, that's why I wonder so much about having to eat more more more!
Some things feel really heavy too, and I told him, depending on what I eat, I can feel it moving thru me, and can be a little bit painful even if I chew the crud out of it.
I do appreciate all the responses! Ill will probably be calling him Monday and Ill let everyone know what he does...

You may be on track with one program's plan, but not another's. You do need to follow your specific surgeon's plan/advice IMO because you never know exactly how he does his RNY procedures and it could vary slightly from the other surgeons, so how he creates the pouch and stoma and how he puts that together with the eating plan, I just feel you need to follow his advice.
My SIL also had issues with her stoma closing/narrowing and she had the scope like Angela did. I will tell you that it took a few tries before the stoma stayed at the opening size the surgeon wanted it at, but it was worth it in the end!
Follow his advice and do not be worried. It may be a bit uncomfortable, but you may also be relieved afterwards, and hopefully it allows you to eat without tossing it all back up.
Good luck!
