Meat Puree

Ok who did this? Tried the meat puree after surgery?

My dietician was going over sticking meat in the blender and I instantly thought... Oh my that just sounds gross. Who knows maybe if you spice it up a bit, but my first thoughts were that I can just find other protein sources that week instead of meat in a blender.

But I thought I'd ask you guys since you may have some thoughts differently than I do on it.

The best thing ever after surgery during pureed foods was putting the following in the blender:

ground beef
pizza sauce
shredded cheese
mushrooms

It was like eating pizza!! WHOO HOO! It rocked.

You will be surprised at how wonderful it tastes after weeks on liquids!! I pureed chili and loved it. Also any kind of meat with a little broth and spices or maybe a little bit of mayo is great. You'll be fine.

I never did it when I got home 'cause I wasn't too thrilled with it in the hospital.  Pureed meat should be illegal!    I couldn't do baby food after surgery, either.  I ate more scrambled eggs, mushed up (with a fork) meatloaf with light gravy or spaghetti sauce, etc.  I really didn't have to follow the pureed diet too long.  I got some protein thru drinks or added protein powder, also.

No way in H-E double hocky sticks would I EVER in a million years do the pureed meat thing. Protein shakes was my food of choice for 8 weeks!

I had pork tenderloin with a little of the juice from cooking it pureed at Christmas and it was surprisingly good. Are you allowed to puree something like bean & bacon soup , or split pea w/ ham, or chili?  I pureed those early out.

I was wondering about this also. I'm on a 4 week liquid diet and then I get to have pureed foods and wondered how meat would be. The couple of suggestions I saw are something worth trying. I was talking to my mother-in-law about the pureed foods, and she said she'd show me a few things she did for the DH when he was a baby -- she never bought baby food, she pureed regular food for him and said the day care lady who took care of him always commented on how good the stuff smelled and she wanted to eat it herself! LOL I'll keep an eye on this thread as well as posting things later on, might be helpful to other people. I also found a website that might be useful, for a few ideas and testing anyway. http://www.netwellness.org/healthtopics/diet/pureedentreesalads.cfm There are a lot of websites out there to check out to get some ideas/suggestions. Good luck and hope you find something that works for you!

Sorry, here's another website to check out. This blog was posted by someone who actually had RNY surgery. I thought this was interesting. :)

Funny...I don't know why, but I had a flashback this morning of the slow cooker roast beef dinner that I pureed after surgery!  I remember - how surprisingly- how darn good it actually was!

I (or maybe my roommate at the time) had put a roast in the slow cooker with carrots and potatos - cooked it all day.  For dinner ( and many meals to follow) I put some of the very tender roast beef, carrots and piece of potato and some of the broth in the bullet - WALA!  I had an awesome, very easy to eat meal!

Basically, anything you make can be put in the bullet to be pureed.  May just need a little extra liquid to help it along.

Way back when...15 yrs ago....I bought very little baby food for my baby...took much of whatever was made for dinner and pureed the heck out of it ... it worked great!

During the puree stage I always had a container of either turkey Italian sausage that was cooked and put through the food processor or ground turkey cooked w/ taco seasoning and put through the food processor.  I would mix the meat w/ pizza sauce and cheese or pureed scrambled egg w/ salsa and cheese or with refried beans, fat free greek yogurt (or ff sour cream), taco sauce and cheese.  It was like eating a pizza, omlette or the inside of a burrito...yum!
