My name is Karen and I've been "lurking" here for a few months, but am not a "techy" and haven't able to figure out everything works on the site yet.  My surgery is on Weds. (April Fool's Day)....who does that!!  I'm scared to death, but anxious to get it over with and on with my life.  If anybody reads this, I'd like to know if you have any suggestions of what I should definitely have in my house when I come home and what did you wish someone had told you or warned you about that isn't usually mentioned.  Thanks so much to everyone who posts on this site.  I've learned so much and you all have helped me make my final decision to proceed.

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery, and good for you coming out of lurk mode and posting!

My only advice is wear the binder they give you. I took it off after a few days and should have kept it on longer.  It really helps keep your tummy in place and provides nice support while you heal.

Welcome!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sure we all can relate to your feelings of being scared anxious and all the other emotions that go along with this. This is one of the best places you could have found to get valuable information and support. Good luck with your amazing up coming journey,

Welcome Karen!!  It is great that you have come out of lurking mode to post.  There are great people with many good ideas here to help you through one of the harder parts of your journey.  I, myself, think April Fool's Day is a great time to have surgery- you will never forget your surgiversary!!

As for things they don't tell you:
1.  You will most likely gain weight while in the hospital, but don't worry, it is gas and water and comes off relatively quickly.

2.  Don't be afraid to use pain medication- if you stay ahead of pain it is easier to walk, walk, walk, and sip, sip, sip.

3,  The one thing I really enjoyed when I came home from the hospital was sugar free popsicles- they were cold and yummy..  I also had Isopure drinks to help me get my protein and fluids in at the same time.

Good Luck on Wednesday- You will do GREAT!!

Hey! Welcome! Congrats on your upcoming surgery! I had mine on the 13th... so another one of those superstitious days, lol  What to have ready at home? A comfortable place to lounge in front of the TV, lots of pillows and hopefully a husband, friend or child to take care of you!! Oh... and lots of water ready for the sippin'!
