Partial Bowel Obstruction?

Hey all-

First I want to say I have a Dr appt at 4pm today. Last week I started having pains in my stomach (left upper and left lower) that come and go and seem to be lasting longer and hurting more. I went to urgent care on friday afternoon and he said it was reflux because it was worse after eating. I've been taking prilosec all weekend to no avail. I've been constipated and can't seem to pass gas to relieve the pressure and pain. For the others that have had this, can you tell me what yours was like? Otherwise, I might have an ulcer, but we'll see. This would be the 2nd ulcer after WLS. BLAH!

Farrah,

The hard part is with these symptoms it could  be msny different things. I have a 30+ year history of IBS and also have diverticular disease. My abdominal pain and issues are always related to these two things.  My pain sounds a lot like yours. I manage it by going to clear liquids for a couple of days to allow my colon to rest and inflamation to go down. I then gradually increase to normal foods, as tolerated. I avoid uncooked fruits and veggies for the most part as they can trigger problems so when I eat them raw I do so very sparingly. (Sometimes you just gotta have that salad!)

I also take a fiber supplement daily and make sure I drink around 100 oz. or more each day.
Good luck in finding out the problem and what is causing the pain.

Hi Farrah

So sorry you're dealing with this. Keep us posted on what your doctor says.

It's possible it could be another ulcer. I have had my ulcer reoccur a couple times. It really sucks     The last one I had I really didn't think it was an ulcer again, cuz the pain was in a different area. But it turned out to be another one. I had a CT and an MRI and finally another scope and that's where they found the ulcer.. So, back on to prilosec for me. It's pretty good now. I don't take it every day, just when I feel a touch of pain starting. On a side note to the CT and MRI, they found that I had an enlarged adrenal gland and an enlarged spleen.......such fun. My doctor said it's noting to be concerned about, but just to be aware of it and keep an eye on it.

Anywho, let us know how it all goes. Hopefully it's not a bowel obstruction.

Sending good vibes your way.

Hugs

I haven't had this, but just wanted to say I'm sorry that you are feeling pain. I know what it's like (hence the gallbladder  issue)... and it can be miserable. I hope it will get fixed soon!

Thanks Elena, I had my gallbladder removed, so I feel for you!

I went to the dr and since I wasn't in pain (it comes and goes - I get it for 3 or 4 hours and then it goes away and comes back later) he said to monitor it and if it doesn't get better than i'll get a CT scan. That's basically what they told me on Friday. Oh well.
