Welcome, Jamie! I can't help with HealthPartners, but welcome you to the boards. This is an awesome site for support and information. Before you know it, you will be on the losers bench.

Hey, Jamie!
I have HP too, but my surgeon's office won't give me a date until after I have approval.  I'm going nuts right now waiting to hear back, lol!  They did tell me that HP takes a long time to process the approval- up to a month.  Hope you hear back soon!

Hi Jamie:

I had HP when I had my surgery last year.  Each clinic is different.  My clinic did not schedule me to see the surgeon until they had the approval, but I do remember the approval (once it was sent in) taking only a week or so - I remember being so surprised that it was such a short time.    I say, keep moving ahead.  I am sure they will push for the approval and all will be fine.

Good luck!

Congratulations!!  I have Healthpartners and just had my surgery.  I had the surgeon appointment and two and a half weeks later was given the approval.  That's when we set my date.  I hope it goes that fast for you!

Hi Jamie and welcome,
I have Hp and couldn't schedule my surgery until approval either but it only took a week / week and a half to get my approval letter.
But I to felt like you, didn't want to get to excited about the surgery until I had the approval in my hands.
Good luck!

Hi Jamie!

I have HealthPartners insurance and I was denied at first due to my BMI not being over 40 for two consecutive years and no comorbidities.  After I was denied, my surgery date was canceled and was not scheduled until I had received approval.  I think it depends on the surgeon if they keep the date while it is being appealed.  HealthPartners also required that I have my surgeon consult prior to submitting for authorization.  Good luck with getting approved...they are very fast to respond!

Hey Jamie! Welcome!! Good to have you here! It's weird when surgery comes so fast... we wait for every and every to jump through all the hoops and then as soon as the day is set, time seems to go a mile a second!

Jamie,

Welcome to you!  I have Health Partners and my clinic would not schedule until they had my approval.  I am with Fairview Southdale Weight Loss like a previous poster.  It sounds like you have all the hurdles met.  Do you have any comorbidities?

I wish you the best with your surgery and please know that you will have plenty of support here!  Let us know how you are progressing!

No I have no comorbidities, if I did I would be more certian. I guess that I have been though so many surgeries (with my son) that have been canceled that I just don't want to get my hopes set on a date or time frame because I'm not good at having my bubble burst. As I'm sure all of you know the hardest part is the wait, trust me I know this.

Thank you for all of you support and I will be letting you know how things go tomorrow. I'm hoping that I will get more knowledge during my nurse visit, maybe I should say reasurance.

Thanks again

Jamie

Hey, Jamie!
Just wanted to give you an update- I have my fifth HP phone appt. (last pre-op!!!) today, Wednesday afternoon.  I called HP yesterday after I posted because I had another question, but because I had them on the line, I asked about whether they had recieved my submission for approval yet.  She looked it up and told me that it was pending, so it was in the works.  She also told me that they take 7-10 business days to process them, but it is quite often less than that.  She also encouraged me to call every day to check on the status of my case!  I don't know if I necessarily believe that they wouldn't be thinking, "why won't this crazy bi*ch leave us alone!" but hey, whatever they say goes!  So, feel free to call them and check on it every day- then you will know right away, rather than a day or two later when you get the letter.  My plan is to start calling next Monday- that gives them a 4-day start.  Hope this helped!  Feel free to PM me if you ever want to talk or compare notes!
