Minnesota Care
I was just approved for MN care and now must choose my health plan. I have the choice between
medica
health partners
ucare minnesota
metropolitan health plan
I have been told that U care is the best for getting approved for wls. Does anyone have any expierience with this or any input about which plan might be the best?
I must also choose a primary care physician and haven't been to a doctor in years. If anyone has any suggestions with that, I would be most appreciative. Also I live in the longfellow neighborhood of Mpls.
Thank you for any and all input!

my only experience was with Health Partners - there are hoops - but approval went smoothly.
they don't require the 6 month supervised weight loss but they do have you do a 5 call health education class over the telephone that has to be done before you get approval. And they do the calls every 2 weeks - so it puts you out about 2 1/2 months if i remember right.
best wishes on your surgery path! you can do it!
Hi Maggie - great to see you post.
Congrats on the MN Care approval, I know that must be a great feeling for you - Step 1, done. Nice.
Mary was able to get approval for her DS, and was a revision patient. Revisions are even trickier than the DS to get approval for, so if you're still teetering between RNY & DS, I'd suggest going with the plan Mary has. That way, it's still your choice of which surgery is right for you, with coverage not being an issue.
Best wishes.
