Reading all the posts about the side effects, gas, hormones, etc.  I'm starting to get nervous about having surgery.  Can I (and my husband) handle all these things coming our way?  I start my LD tomorrow and am excited for my new life but...

I can do this, I can do this, I can do this - AND SO CAN YOU!!

Medica covers all bariatric surgeries you just to make sure your specific policy does.  Look at all of the different types  the duodenal switch, VSG, RNY, and the Lap band. Good Luck.

It is normal to have these feelings before your surgery you wouldn't be normal if you didn't. I struggled with all the same concerns that you have. I know now that you need to be patient with the whole process because you will realize that you have done a great thing for yourself. Make sure that you you and your husband communicate and you will be able to handle this and all that will be changing in your wonderful new you. My prayers will be with you during these times of doubt. IT WILL GET BETTER.

Therese,

Being nervous is SO normal! Remember that this is a journey with all kids of turns in the road. Like Tim said, just keep talking things through with your husband and you'll be okay! And keep coming here for support. You've alredy come far in this journey, and you get through this next phase too!

You'll be fine, Therese.  As Tim said, its only normal to have a little apprehension at this point -- after all, this is a big decision with big consequences.  Just keep focus on the reasons behind your decision.  The side effects you hear about don't happen to everyone.  Even though you never know what little "special gifts" you'll end up with, they sure as heck beat the alternatives . . . heart disease, diabetes, POS, high blood pressure, etc. It is not an easy or quick process to work through, but you can do it.  Just take things one step at a time.

Therese,
If you weren't getting nervous, I would worry.  It is very normal to be nervous, you are about to embark on a life changing journey. Chin up! Remember, there will be change, that will effect both you and your husband. Just keep the communication open and going between you two and everything will be ok. We have been there. Pretty soon, you will be on the loser's bench!
