Flattering semi-formal wear

I have a wedding that I need to attend and partially participate in this fall.  I'm already on the hunt for a new dress that will be flattering to my now saggy figure.  I am wondering, should I bring someone with me when I have narrowed down the dress options who can tell me if what I think I see in the mirror is fitting properly?  I do understand that tailors make my world go 'round, but starting with the appropriate shape and such makes life easier.  I'm not sure that even at 3 years out, I can tell by looking in a dressing room mirror if something is flattering.

I know I would want someone else there with me because my visions of what doesn't look good I usually get tons of compliments on! Good luck with the dress hunting!
