Cottage Cheese

Or are these for Pureed or Solid Diet?

According to the info I received from my office, the only thing on that list on the full liquid diet would be unsweetened applesauce.  I am starting my LD tomorrow - when do you do yours?

I can do this, I can do this, I can do this - AND SO CAN YOU!!

I would wait until you are on Puree for the mashed potatoes, apple sauce and cottage cheese.  The string cheese should wait until you are at least on soft foods.    Just my opinion.

For full liquids I stuck with cream soups, very loose Cream of Wheat, protein shakes, and similar things.  If you have questions make sure to ask the nutritionist that you work with.  Your surgeions' office would rather have you call than advance your diet too quickly.

Diane,

What I was told is if it's not liquid it's not to be eaten........So I had a lot of chicken broth or soup drained.......

Good luck.....SF popscicles really helped me.....

  1. Clear Liquids -- The first stage of the gastric bypass diet, clear liquids (meaning beverages that you can almost see through), usually lasts for a day or two after the operation. The clear liquid diet starts with sips of water, and then allows foods like sugar-free juice, diet gelatin, boullion or clear broth in small amounts, usually 2-3 ounces at a time.
  2. Low-Fat Full Liquids -- If no problems are experienced with clear liquids, the gastric bypass diet advances to high-protein liquids like diet Carnation Instant Breakfast™, Ensure™, or Sustacal™, and protein shakes. This stage of the diet is started before discharge from the hospital and lasts for 1 to 2 weeks. Most patients also begin taking a chewable multivitamin/ mineral supplement at this stage.

Also feedback I read:

A bariatric surgery liquid diet consists of most liquids as the name states. You can eat foods that have been pureed, strained foods, baby food or protein shakes. For me the easiest of these options was the liquid protein shakes. The idea of eating baby food did not appeal to me. I did puree some food, but pureed, high protein foods just aren't the same without the normal texture. Ninety five percent of my first 2 weeks, following my gastric bypass surgery, I consumed liquid protein shakes.

Almost any type of liquid protein shake will do as long as it has it least 10 grams of protein and less than 10 grams of sugar per eight ounce serving. Higher protein and lower sugar is better. Calories are going to be between 90 and 120, regardless of brand. In the days following your surgery, it will take quite a while for you to consumer even eight ounces of fluid.

During the first two weeks, you spend a large amount of your time consuming water and shakes, because your stomach will only hold an eighth to a quarter cup of food or liquid following your surgery.

Hope that helps!!!

I was told upon check out NOTHING other than liquid in your mouth. I just took my favorite progresso soup (light southwest veggie) soup drained off the broth, warmed some it up I think it has really helped for me. Then I pureed the veggies and froze them. The texture my not be the same but at least they will taste like normal food. I'm hoping that on Thursday I will be able to add cream soups, or maybe blended very runny soups, I'm not real sure about the cream soup thing. I wouldn't try any of the above items, I would worry that it is to soon and would cause damage.

You'll have to contact your dietician or surgeons office. My LD consisted only of clear liquids and boost. I was told by my surgeon that the things you have listed are for the pureed or soft food diet. The only exception that was made for me was 2 weeks after surgery I was told I could add in yogurt and unsweetened apple sauce. Nothing else.
