HOW DARE WE NOT BE THE SAME

So, how many of you dealing with this/these issues have sought counseling? Or, do you feel it doesn't require it?

Perhaps this is another angle I can throw out there. Prior to my surgery, while I fought the insurance beast, I spent extra time with the psych who did my eval. I hand-picked her based on her extreme knowledge of WLS and the issues it may or may not bring for individuals before & after surgery. I had this chance and quite honestly, it may have been just the thing that will prevent some of these issues for myself. I'm not sure. But, I really feel in the depths of my heart that those extra sessions with her were key. We talked a lot about who I was as an individual, things that may change after weight loss, etc. I really feel most people try to rush through this process just to get the letter of support and psych eval crossed off the requirement list, and I have advocated on many occassions with individuals to embrace that time and take the extra time to keep seeing that person if needed.

I'm not saying counseling is THE answer, but I guess I'm just curious as to whether or not people utilize this or their EAP program at work when it comes to issues like this.

Amy:

I have been seeing the bariatric psychologist who did my psych eval once a month for the past year.  Admittedly, I have been slow to bring some of this stuff up, so my next few sessions should be pretty interesting.
