Weird and crazy and gross!

So a couple of things!

My incision between my breasts has been super sore.  It has been sensitive and because my surgeon had to put it where my bra goes it's extra sensitive.  So yesterday after my 3-week appointment I put gauze on it with a little ointment to help soften it up.  Last night I take the bandage off and I feel it and POKE!  One of my internal stitches has made it through my skin and was sticking out.  No wonder the darn thing was sore for criminy sakes!  I mean - could we have put the incision 1/4-1/2" lower or higher?  Man.

So then I'm not sure there could be a couple of reasons for this happening last night.  Ya know how sometimes you smell something and you can taste it and vice versa. - OMG I'm gagging just thinking about this but hear goes.

Yesterday I started on my iron and gallbladder and calcium meds as instructed.  She told me to take the gallbladder and iron WHOLE - WHAT? Take that whole thing at once?  Yup that's what she said.  So last night was my second night of my new routine.  I take my one flinstone, two VIT D gummies, one benefiber and chew them up.  It's really too sweet but I chew them all at once and it's okay.  Then I brush my teeth and then I took the iron pill and then the gallbladder capsule.  Everything seemed okay.

Went to bed and woke up at midnight gagging and coughing in my own stomach acid.  IT WAS SOOOOO BAD that my husband got up and ran over with the waste basket because I thought I was going to lose it.  It was DISGUSTING!  Remember than thing about smell/taste.  Well it tasted like BOILED CHICKEN smells and it was bad.  I don't know how many of you have ever butchered chickens but I did it once and they scorch the chicken it hot boiling water for sanitary reasons and also to get rid of some of the little feathers.  Well if you have you understand exactly what I'm talking about - it stinks.  There is no other smell like it - YUCK YUCK YUCK!  Makes me shiver.

So I literally could not stop it for a few minutes my tummy would gurgle  and then the bubbles would come up with a burp and acid.  So I ran down stairs and took a couple sips of milk and then some two tums.  It took awhile and I had to sit up for about an hour because every time I laid down tummy would gurgle and then the acid and bubbles would come up. But it did eventually go away.

So now here are some reasons and maybe you could help be out.
#1 - Having a reaction to my first B12 shot?
#2 - The flinstone, gummies and benefiber were just tooooo sweet for my new pouch but I've been doing this for awhile but not with the iron and gallbladder meds.
#3 - Either the Iron or Gallbladder pill got stuck (I've never been stuck so I don't know how it feels) and dissolved in my tummy instead of my intestine and wanted to come back up because the environment was NOT good for it.

So that's what I'm thinking - your thoughts are appreciated!
Thanks,
Sal

I clipped it off with a finger nail clipper.  I didn't pull of course just clipped the part that was sticking out.  I'm going to call on my lunch hour to see if I should be concerned.  It did hurt but not since I have guaze and I slipped it - it's not so irritating today.

I'm not sure what would be causing the reflux yukkies, but are you taking any kind of reflux med for now?  I never had issues with that pre-op, but was put on something for one month post-op.  Maybe you need that?

As for getting stuck?  I doubt that was the issue.  As far as I'm concerned, you KNOW when you're stuck!!!  Very first time it happened to me, there was NO DOUBT IN MY MIND what was happening!  It hurts, right under your sternum - feels like Godzilla is in there, trying to SQUEEZE your pouch every 30 to 45 seconds to force the offending bits through - and there's only one way to find immediate relief for THAT...

Thanks Darla - I'm thinking it might have been a reaction to the actigal and iron together so I'm going to try and take those seperately now.

Now that you mention the stuck thing - I was just assuming I would feel it lower but you mentioned between the breasts just under the sternum?  I have not thrown up yet but have had the pressure right at the bottom of the sterum and it gets tight and is painful.  This has happened about three times since surgery and I chalked it up to eating too fast.  The longest it lasted was about 5min. Everyother time was about 2mins.  So could be I was eating too fast or it was stuck but then got unstuck?

I talked to the RN she said it was fine that I snipped the stitch and that I was probably guessing right that it was the iron and actigal mixed together.  But if it keeps happening even if I do seperate the dose then I will do something for the reflux.

Thanks for posting!

Yes, you were probably stuck, but not bad.  The pouch CAN squeeze stuff through if it's not too big, but DANG...  Eating too fast and/or not chewing well enough will do it to you.

As for throwing up?  It's not like it used to be.  More like "backing up", like a sink with a clog.  At the risk of sharing TMI (yeah, like there's such a thing as "TMI" on THIS board!!! lol...)  You've heard people talk of the foamies, or sliming?  Here's my take on it.  It's just the - uh....  "juices"? from your pouch lubricating the exit for the food.  It's not nearly as disgusting as the "old" throwing up - whatever is in there and can't get through, simply comes back out.  On those increasingly RARE occasions when it happens to me, I just bend over the ol' porcelain bowl, the "slime" starts slurping out, and eventually - the offending bits.  Taste just the same coming out as it did going in.  And the relief is pretty much instant!

So there ya go.  Getting Un-stuck 101.

Thank you for the 101 - because this is something of an old habit that I'm just trying to retrain myself to stick to.  Eating slower and that I believe has been my cause.  So just a learning curve here at 3weeks out.  I think we need a little TMI especially because we are the "newbies" and you've all been there and done it so it helps to know the god's honest truth about things!  SO THANK YOU!

Hey girl,

That sounds like alot that you took all at once and you said it tasted sweet.. so do you think that was why? when you call about your stich at your lunch break are you going to ask about the upchuck episode too? I guess I'd be afraid to take all that and then just go lay down in bed? Even now, I've taken a flintstone before bed and i've gotten heart burn from it.. so maybe its something to do with that or the mix you took. I don't know? Let me know what you hear?

Did you have lap or open? I didn't know they did an incision up that high?

Stacy
