10 days post op

I am motivated to do some exercising.  I am 10 days post op and I am not sure how much I should push myself to do.  Doc says whatever I feel comfortable with.  I guess that's what I should go by.  I was thinking maybe of just using my elliptical machine.  What is everyone elses experience with exercise post op?  (I am still in the mind set that this is going to fail as well).

Peace.

I am pre-op for another two days, but I would guess walking is always an option.  Good place as any to start!

I can do this, I can do this, I can do this - AND SO CAN YOU!!

I walk all day long, I am a registered nurse!  HAHA  Good luck with your surgery!  I am thinking the elliptical is a good option vs. say running...

Well I'm hardly the exercise guru around here, but I would personally think that starting with plain 'ol walking might be the best - get you going without jarring any of your tender insides!   Even if you FEEL fabulous, your new plumbing is still healing.   Treat it with TLC, i say...

Oh - and CONGRATU-FRICKIN'-LATIONS!!!

You can try it out... I'd just take it slow. The movement of the legs up and down.. if they make your belly move a lot, it might make you a bit sore. I'd start with walking and then see how that feels and work from there. Congrats on being 10 days out! Good to hear you are doing well!

Congrats on your progress so far!
I'll start with (I am still in the mind set that this is going to fail as well).  That mind set must STOP!! If you believe it won't work, it won't. Remember the Little Engine that could "I think I can, I think I can, I can, I can"    I agree with the others, start out slow with exercise and increase as you feel you can. I think at my 2 week point I was still just walking on the ellipical at a slow pace.

Good luck you will do great. It is so worth it!!

Welcome to the losers bench!

Start out slow it find out what you can tolerate. As your strenght comes back you can always add on.  My elip was and is my best tool. I am on it everyday, some more then others depending on my mood. I have added in other exercise and strenght training, but the elip is my basic tool.

As for the feeling of failure, I not sure if that every goes away. I am waiting to fail, but I think that is part of my motivation for now, that I can't fail again.

I'm concerned about opening sutures on the eliptical, but what the heck, give yourself 5 minutes, stop, and take stock.  If you still feel good, go another 5 minutes.  Don't overdo, or tomorrow you may find yourself totally wiped out.

Its great that you are motivated to want to do anything!!  Keep up the good work.

P.S.  At 10 days I walked.  Not alot because it was cold, but I forced myself!
