I am 19 months out and I am still having a lot of trouble with constipation. I will go days without a bowel movement and it gets to the point that I am in pain and have to take laxatives to get things moving.  Is this common at this stage?  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.  I am concerned that something else is going on but the Dr. doesnt seem to be concerned......HELP!

i've heard several people on here they eat 2-3 prunes as part of their daily diet to keep things moving. Other people take a daily stool softener I think. I've heard to be careful with laxatives because they are so harsh on our internal plumbing. Are you drinking enough water? Even increasing water intake by 1 glass may help? I don't know.. I'm rambling on.. thinking of all the things i've heard to do..

I have this issue from time to time. After talking with my doctor about this he suggests that I take Miralax which you can buy over the counter. He says its safe enough to take daily. Which I do most of the time. I add it to my coffee in the morning. It does work.
Hope you can find something that works for you!

Miralax is my miracle.  I heard directly from a gastro Dr. that it is safe to use daily.  It doesn't enter the blood stream, it just brings more fluid to the colon.  It has worked the best for me out of all the others such as stool softeners, Benefiber (which ruined my life with gas), Citracel, prunes...etc.  I do eat FIber One cereal (the twigs) every day, but Miralax really keeps things going daily.  I mix it with Crystal light and it's down the hatch with no problems.  It's not thick or yucky.

Don't let it go too long or you may end up in the ER with a bowel impaction.  I don't want to scare you, but I've heard it happen to WLS people.

Get some Miralax and get pooping!

YEP! Here comes WAAYYY too much info but my constipation causes a TON of pain.

The way I deal with it?  A combination of the following:

2-3 prunes every morning (Haven't done it in the last 4 days though due to my plateau busters diet and I am seeing the effects)

Flaxseed with my yogurt

Benefiber in my water

I'm a Miralax believer! Use daily in the beginning for best results.
It is now sold OTC and available almost everywhere. It is flavor free and mixes easily with plain water. I highly recommend it!

I was going a week or so without a BM and was only going by taking laxatives. I think it made my whole ulcer situation worse. My gastroenterologist recommend alternating metamucil one day and miralax the next. It's been working now for me! I feel TONS lighter! :)

TMI!  Um, I will go for a week just releasing little rabbit poohs, then I will have a good day where I have 2 or 3 BM's that just about knock my socks off.  I know it has to do with the amount of veggies I eat, and with my anxiety levels.  Sometimes I have decent poops daily. again, that has a lot to do with diet.  I absolutely love cheese stix, and know they slow me way down, but I LOVE them!  usually a lttle MOM or mineral oil get me going if I think I'm getting a little too backed up.
