I don't know anything about boxing, but... I belonged to Anytime Fitness and really liked it, just wasn't interested in going. I have also belong to Curves, but there wasn't enough variety for me. I think the YMCA is too expensive. Personally, if I join a gym again, it will be Anytime Fitness.
I can do this, I can do this, I can do this - AND SO CAN YOU!!

I think Curves would be too low-intensity for you. It's good... but I think you probably can handle something a little more intense.
For me, the YMCA has alot of variety and I really did not find it too expensive since my insurance kicks in if I go a certain amount each month.... I am planning on joining again....plus they have pools and whirlpools for after your intence workout!!!
When we joined before they even had special sessions for dancing or aerobics and such!!
Wanna join with me?

I like Lifetime Fitness. Tons of variety and they really have something for everyone. My boys take karate lessons and they offer kickboxing classes, as well. You might want to try a local karate business to see if they offer kickboxing. My husband takes the class and says it kicks his butt (and he's done three triathalons)
I was with Gold's for 3 years, and worked with a few different trainers there. I really liked their selection of equipment, The trainers were all wonderful, and there were some really fun classes offered, too. I had a horrible experience with Anytime Fitness, and refuse to deal with the company ever again, though many others seem to like it. I've done Curves as well, too, but I agree with the other comments- not challenging enough. One idea I would suggest to you is to look into community ed classes- it's a cheap, easy, very low-commitment way to try something new.

I go to LA Fitness. It's way cheaper than the Y. They have all the equipment, a pool, sauna, classes...and they have longer hours than the Y, too. It's kept very clean, and there are no kids under 14 allowed without adult supervision. I've never seen any in there, either. Since I'm not working right now, I try to go during the day when it's much quieter. The worst time is around dinner time (I only did that once!) You can work with a trainer if you'd like, too.

Kelly,
I have been going to Golds for the last three years. They have a lot of equipment to use, have excellent classes that will challange your mind and body. I'm not sure it they still offer it in Buffalo but they did have a kick boxing class. I will inquire the next time I'm at the gym and will let you know.

After my surgery my family and I joined -No Rules Marital arts-. I promise you, I had every thing I needed in a work out. I did kung fu san su and Brazillain ju zit zu (sp) on Fridays we did kick boxing and we did some with weapons. My kids loved it. NEVER got boring. They have so many different classes and they used to offer aerobics. I haven't been there in a while because I live so far away. (me and my kids still use the boxing gloves and pads at home) LOVE it!!
