Fruit? too much sugar?
I'm totally confused about fruit. I looked at apple sauce.. 12-15g of sugar per cup? How can I eat this even though its on my post-op list? Is it because I'll only be able to eat 1/3 to a 1/2 of the cup?
Even the fruit in its natural juices that are canned are the same amounts of sugar.. per serving.
I am talking about labels on things that are on my food list.. no sugar added applesauce, or orgainc.. canned fruit that says its in its own juice, not syrup. Even as I was reading yogurt labels tonite.. Yoplait light- 12 g of sugar. Yo kids.. 12 g.. So now I'm all confuzed on this sugar thing. My guideline is 7g of sugar or less per serving. Aside from greek yogurt, they were all around 10-15g/serving. And all the canned/bottled fruit/applesauce I found was 12-15???
This is what had me dazed and confused at first too!
Sugar from fruits is natural so those are "usually' ok. I have never had a dump from fruit and I eat it all the time! including bananas, which have lots of natural sugars, You want to stay away from the refined sugars and be careful of high sugar alcohols.
For the applesauce you would have to buy the *no sugar added/sweetned with splenda*(and it will say those words on the label). This should lower the sugar levels greatly. Canned fruit - the same thing. As far as yogurt, the lowest I have found was 8g per serving, which I can handle but you wouldnt know until you tried. I get the Dannon Light/Fit kind. I also love the Dannon Immunity light which has less but its a very small drink type yogurt.
I hope this helps......
Dannon also makes a Light & Fit Carb and Sugar control yogurt. They come in 4 paks of 4oz containers and have 2 grams of sugar. I buy them at Super Target or Walmart Super Stores. They only come in three flavors though....Blueberry, Strawberry and Vanilla.
