Question on dumping
I believe that what Jen described would actually be getting "stuck" - not chewing something thoroughly enough before swallowing.
Dumping is your body's chemical reaction to too much sugar or fat, and it can vary - there's no hard & fast rule. It could come on relatively quickly, or it could take a few hours to hit - only experience will tell you how your body will react. Dumping can cause sleepiness, stomach ache/cramping, sweats, shakes.... it's just not pleasant. I get a little stomach ache if I have something evil, which is dumping, but I've only experienced two significant dumping episodes since my surgery - It is NO FUN. (My 2nd experience, last fall after a little bit of wedding cake? UGH... bellyache and gas from HELL!)

Imperfect does not = unsuccessful
Early out post-op, I would get a variety of sensations when my body was responding to hidden fat, sugar, or sugar alcohols. Within 5-10 minutes of eating the offending food I would get nauseus, shakey, sweaty. I found that walking and drinking tons of water helped this feeling to pass. Later dumping changed up and I found that I get VERY SLEEPY after too much sugar. Shakes and sweats are common and sometimes a raging headache. Sugar alcohols that my body does not like cause almost immediate abdominal cramping, foul gas, and just generally yucky.
Really bad dumping has only been 2x and was from liquid sugars being too high. Like a bad drunk episode...uncontolable vomitting ad dry heaves, spinning, feeling very weak and shakey. I would even have a hangover type reaction feeling like crap for several hours to a couple of days.
Everyone is different and your own body will respond in numerous ways to the different types of things you eat. And there isn't always a consistent pattern to how I'd react. I would log how various foods made me feel and found that early out, it was better if could control my food, so eating out was not my first choice.
Here's hoping you never experience a really bad dumping.

I've had a couple of dumping episodes where it was just a tired feeling, but I've had two episodes where within about 2 hours of eating too much sugar I was hot, sweaty, tired and all together wiped out. Scares the heck out of me when it happens.
