I am new here.  RNY 4/22/09.  I am 3 weeks post op.  I have this terrible burning pain on my left side.  If I lean down to tie my shoes or if I lay down on the bed.  This pain takes my breath away and brings tears to my eyes.  It only last a few minutes.  Dr office says that it is scar tissue healing.  Well I am wondering if this is just one more thing that will pass?  Please help

Is this a new pain or has it been there since day 1.  If its been there I may tend to agree with doc but no one on this board can assess you.  If it is new, I would insist on being seen.  Pain is your body's way of telling you something just isn't right.

I'd request a second opinion, I have mine the day before you and I have absolutely zero pain in my stomach anymore, and haven't had any for about 2 weeks.  (I'm sure everyone heals differently though) BUT still, like the last poster stated, if it's new..  insist that it be checked out, they have the capability.  You should not be in so much pain that it takes your breath away..      Keep us posted!

Honey I was 5 days Post Op and had terrible pain.  I called my DR. and went to the ER.  As it turned out I had a major complication that no one could have predicted.
Please call your DR!  I usually put things off, but for some reason I called and I'm so glad I did.

I agree - call your doc. It won't hurt to. It may just be healing pains but better safe than sorry.

I called the doctor and he told me...that my inside stiches are hitting a nerve.  I don't know if this is true.  It is not constant pain.  It is just weird.  If I strech, oh my.  Thanks for all your input.

I had left side pain that had subsided and then returned at about 3 weeks after I overdid it with lifting my daughter.  Getting in and out of my car would really make it ache as would getting up from bed or the sofa.   I did get a refill on the Vicodin, which helped . I took it easy and wore the binder and it was gone a few days later.   If you're not wearing the binder, do. I hated that thing, but it really did help.

I think I did something when my 4 year old son fell asleep on me.  I tried to scoot him over and it hurt.  Then a few days later this pain.  I was told to start wearing the binder and have been for a week or so.  Doctors keep telling me to take pain meds but the pain doesn't last long enough.  Thanks for your reply it sounds like it may have be the same thing.
