Anyone gaining some weight?

I am 4 1/2 years out and originally lost 100 lbs.  I have now had 7 back surgeries and now I am going to need double level fusion in my neck.  Exercising right now is out of the question because the pain is so high.  Now I am putting on weight.  I am very scared and depressed because I don't want to go back to where I was.

Any suggestions out there from the old timers?

Thanks

Kris

I think it would be important to watch your calorie intake and stick to high protein foods.  Maybe keep a food journal it might help in this situation.

Hi Kris,

How much have you gained? 5? 10? 25?  More?  I'm six years out and just dropped 20 lbs that I had let creep on the last couple of years.  It took me a year but I'm back down and bounce up and down about 5 lbs.  I think that's where my body is the most comfortable.  I admit I'm pretty lazy when it comes to exercise, so I if I would get off my butt...I oould probably drop another 10.

How did I lose it?  I quit grazing so much mainly.  My meals have always been pretty reasonable, I don't force in any more than I should...don't eat until I'm stuffed etc.  I think where us old timers can get in trouble the most is picking at the crap too much between meals.  Also I got lazy with drinking with meals.  Remember protein first...limit the snacking...no need to be a food Nazi about it though,  and try not to freak out too much.  Sometimes freaking out turns into depression which turns into more eating....etc.

Weigh yourself regularly to keep an eye on things, and maybe a food journal would help if you feel too out of control.  Also if you have any old fat clothes...now is the time to take them out and take a good hard look at them.  Remember why you had surgery and despite your back troubles, how much easier it is to live without those 100 extra pounds.

Remember....putting on some weight isn't always the road back to morbid obesity.  You CAN turn it around and remember...it's a hell of a lot easier to get 20 lbs off before it turns to 40, 60 or more.

Good Luck - hang in there - all will be well.

I’m almost 5 years out and I too have gained about 20 lbs from my lowest.  I don’t drink my water and exercise is non existence but I do eat my protein and wait at least 10-20 min after eating to drink even though I know we are suppose to wait ½ hour.  I just need to start moving again and stop the snacking.
