Looking for WLS Dr in southern MN

Hello everyone!

I am brand new to the board. I have spent some time reading through the recent posts and feel like I am starting to get to know you all.

We are applying to Minnesota Care, pretty sure we will qualify, and I am just curious how I go about finding a good Dr. From reading a few of the past posts it sounds like I might have some options on which plan to go with once on Minnesota Care but any suggestions you might have would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance and I will be posting more in the very near future!

Hello and welcome!  This is a great place for encouragement and advice!  I would start at the top of the page - there's a Find A Surgeon link - check that, I talked to my PCP and she recommended the program I used in the Cities.  I'm sure someone here will probably have some suggestions, too!

I can do this, I can do this, I can do this - AND SO CAN YOU!!

When I first started researching the procedure, I read up on the website and kind of looked through the "Find a Surgeon" part.  What gave me the best idea was I had my doctor refer me to a group of surgeons.  I am going through Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.  I live in Mankato which isn't nearly as far south as you are but it's still quite a drive.

I'm pretty sure they take Minnesota Care though.

Thank you guys for getting back to me so quickly!

I am about 45 mins from Mankato but I think you get to the cities a different way than me so it is a little quicker.

There are so many thoughts/feelings/questions running through my head right now. I will be researching and posting soon!

Welcome!  I went through the Mayo Clinic.  I would think they take most any type of insurance with the patient load they have coming through their clinic.

Here's a link to their program:

Welcome to the MN board & OH.com!

Though surgeons in the southern part of the state may be most convenient, don't rule out what TYPE of surgery you want/need.

Duodenal Switch performed in the Cities is also an excellent choice.
www.dsfacts.com for more information on the surgery.
Dr. Buchwald and Dr. Ikrammudin at the U of M Fairview perform it.

Best wishes on your journey. Don't hesitate to ask questions - it's how we all learned, too.
