Minus 80
I was 5 months out on 5/23 and as of yesterday, I am officially down 80 pounds. Am very excited about this and being 5 pounds away from Onederland now.
There was a 3 week period where I did not lose pounds, but could feel the clothes fitting a little looser again so I know there were inches being lost. Isn't that always the way. Then I went almost all protein (only 30g of carbs per day) and in a matter of 5 days lost 6 pounds. Loving this!
Speaking of protein...if you love cheese, be sure to try Ellsworth cheese curds - they are in a white & clear bag in the gourmet cheese section at Cub if you shop there. Just be careful...one is plain & the other is garlic which is VERY VERY strong! I melt them in the microwave for 30 seconds and they are so yummy. Just a protein friendly find. :-)
Back to the story. One thing I am still finding hard to adjust to is receiving the compliments. It feels so foreign to me. One of my sister's said last night "you are just so damn skinny"...I don't view myself as skinny, so that is hard to believe. But, I come from a family where all us girls are a size 18 or more. Remember I started at a 24. So, to them now that I'm in a 14, I'm skinny but it's just so odd to hear, especially when I don't feel it yet.
Today my Mom asked how much I was down so I told her 80 and she said "oh good, are you done now?". She asked me the same thing 10 pounds ago. So, I went ahead and said "my goal is a normal BMI which means I need to lose about 70 more." She just shook her head and kept saying "I don't think that should be your goal, you'll be so small." haha I loved it!
I honestly don't remember being "thin". Mom had to remind me that my prom dress I wore when I was a Sophmore was a size 8. Then she whipped out the picture and said "see you were thin there!". And you know, she was right. I looked healthy and thin. I had legs & ankles NOT just cankles! That was encouraging to see if you know me at all and my issue with my inherited cankles.
Well, it's hard to share all this because it seems so incredibly self-righteous, but I learned from a few other wonderful LOSERS that sometimes we have to share this stuff here because it can be encouraging for others to read, and it reminds us to continually be grateful for the surgery. I guess I've adopted that belief, too. I absolutely adore when people share their daily/weekly/monthly/yearly updates and WOW moments. It is encouraging.
So excited for all of you and your journey's! Keep sharing!!!

I loved that you shared your success story!! Congrats on the 80 lbs lost. I can so understand the getting compliments from others. I have a pair of pants that I think are not flattering at all but I always get a compliments of how "skinny" I am when I wear these. I totally don't see it but others do!! Its amazing on how long it takes for us to see what others do.
Congrats on your weight loss and your success. Wishing you much more as you work towards your goal!!

Please keep sharing! You can't imagine how much it helps to read about successes! I can't get enough of wow moments. Of course, my brain tells me it's because I have so few of my own, but the reality is I do, I just need to realize them for what they are!
I hear you on accepting compliments. when people say, oh you've lost weight, I know I should say thank you but I always have an explanation..so weird
If you are a size 14 now can you even imagine your size in another 70#'s?
Can you share your meal plan of mostly protein and down to 30g of carbs?
, you my dear are a rock star!!

Hey sweetness! Great to see you today - and those people that compliment you are right, you've lost weight!!! LOL I can't wait to see you all healed up from your PS and how much more easy you'll be walking around, etc.
Size...no, no way - I truthfully cannot imagine. It blows my mind now to go into a fitting room, try on a pair of pants and they go on easily without a bunch of strangulation and wriggling. THAT is a WOW moment for me every single time!
We aim for 90 - 100 grams of protein per day. We try to do this by eating high protein foods vs. just consuming protein shakes. So, I've learned to like things like chicken for breakfast for example. Whereas before, that was a carb laden meal for me. If I do have a protein shake, I use 3 oz. water & 1 oz. of heavy whipping cream. Milk has sneaky carbs in it, so we use whole milk which has less carbs than Skim or the others. But, go to heavy whipping cream, and it's negligible. For me personally, at 5 months out, I also do not yet tolerate breads or pasta's or rice well, so I have no choice but to avoid. I also do not eat crackers or items like that. Lots of cheeses, bacon, meats, almonds, etc.
If you want more specific menu's from me than that brief overview, just let me know. I'm happy to share them with you.

It was great to see you again, finally!
I try and follow the DS meal plan, other than I watch my sugar, and fat - cause I don't need it like you guys do
, in more ways than one!!..and I think I am one of the few true distals Dr B has seen who doesn't have malnutrition. Seriously.
I have gotten out of the breakfast food in the morning habit and have not done that for a long time, but I do go back to it for comfort sometimes. Cereal for dinner is my favorite!
What I have trouble with is keeping my carbs as low as you do. I can't work out how to get to 50g or even 30g.
Since my plastics, I have had hardly any appetite and have had a lot of food aversions too. Hopefully, my order of protein powder arrives tomorrow, even after all these years, haven't found one I like

Amy, Thanks for sharing your success. You are doing great. It takes a long time for the brain to catch up with all the losing that we are doing. I still sometimes see myself as overweight, "fat" and it has been almost two years since my surgery. I need to get back here and start reading posts like this an reconnect with friends that I have made. I love reading your posts and they are always so positive and encouraging. Congratulations again!
Take care.
