I started with a BMI between 41 & 42 so yeah
it can be done and should be done if that's what the person wants!

Sally,

With all do respect, this is a public messageboard and anyone can post to it. Do any of us ask ShepKatt or whatever her name is to let us know when her Bariatric TV episodes are going to air? No, I've never seen a single member ask. But, she still posts it here (and every other board I'm sure). She's just putting information out there so if someone is interested, they can use the info.

Same goes for KitKat. She posted this study for information seekers. We've got plenty of lurkers out there - not everyone has a profile even. So, she posted a study here knowing that Minnesota's healthcare systems are approving the DS for more patients (even BCBS is changing their standards!) and Minnesota has 2 extremely skilled DS surgeons. That is a rarity for most states. Heck, guess how many out of towner's our surgeons have performed the DS on? Plenty! They are sought after!

So, if a study post offends you, please think about PM'ing the OP or just simply not posting on a day when you're already irratable. We all need to take that advice.

Great info again Kathy.  The DS can be approved like many other surgeries even with a BMI of 35 with co morbids.  that is why this information needs to get out there.  If you want this procedure it is definetly doable.  You may have to fight a little bit but if it is the -procedure that will suit you best then you need to somettimes fight for things that you need.  It will make you a better patient and advocate for yourself in the long run.  Check out the DS board and you will see several posters there with low BMI's who have had the DS with great success.  It is not just for the super obese anymore.  For more information and studies see dsfacts.com and duodenalswitch.com.  These are great resources for information on this other great surgery choice.
