I need suggestions from y'all!

Yesterday was the first day of Solid Foods phase and I will admit I was not really prepared. Breakfast and lunch went okay, but I just didn't know what to fix for dinner. I ended up having some "naked nuggets" and green beans. The beans were too tough to chew (must have been old - in the freezer) and the nuggets didn't stay down. So much for dinner!

What I'm looking for are meal suggestions in this early Solid Food phase. I don't really like breakfast-type foods so this morning I had deli meat and cheese for brekky. Lunch is chicken salad I made with a bit of low-fat mayo, mustard and chopped up dill pickles - will have it on a Wasa cracker. Oh, brought some applesauce with me, too.

I would really appreciate some ideas and/or where to find some online.
Thank you!
sue

The biggest suggestion I can make is to stay away from white meat chicken for a good long time, and to chew the living daylights out of anything you put in your mouth - then chew it some more.  Moist is good, in everything you eat - at least for a while.

www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.com is a great resource for ideas, recipes and laughs!

Water-packed tuna with a bit of mayo is a great choice, if you like it - TONS of protein!  Sometimes I'll just eat it plain, or with a few crackers - although I didn't do carbs or starches of any kind for QUITE a while post-op.  (Just now getting comfortable eating bread in small portions - too clay-like in the pouch!)

Sometimes I still go to cottage cheese as an easy meal with lots of protein!  Doesn't sound like a meal, I know, but food is now for fuel - not so much for pleasure.  Sometimes, since I never feel physical HUNGER, I'll skip whatever might be available wherever I am, and wait to feed myself until I'm home and can choose something good for me - a few shrimps thawed out from the freezer, a piece of string cheese wrapped up in a slice of deli meat, something like that.

Good luck !   You'll figure it out

I like turkey burger patties, chicken burger patties or just chicken (any meat, really) topped w/ black beans and salsa.  A slice of deli meat w/ a wedge of Laughing Cow cheese spread on it wrapped around half of a dill pickle spear tastes too to me.  Chili is easy to make w/ ground turkey or chicken and keep on hand.  Trader Joe's has a yummy chili lime chicken burger patty.  I also keep the premade Jenny-O turkey burger patties on hand to cook.  They are kind of big so one patty will likely make more than one meal for you.

wow at 4 weeks post op you can move to solid food? i'm on soft food for another 2-3 weeks Week 6-8 post op is when we can start trying "solid" regular foods and i'm not even close to being ready for that) and I had my surgery a week before you. Here's some advice:

I eat alot of thinly sliced or shaved lunch meat... someone else mentioned eating it with a laffing cow wedge which I have done too... or a shmear of lowfat cream cheese and the pickle thing...

Lunches: Still making alot of chicken, egg, and tuna salad... keeping it moist.. Trader Joe's canned chicken in broth is SOOOO insanely tastey (I can eat it right out of the can)... Otherwise I do the deli meat

If you eat veggies... eat canned. My NUT said dont' try even frozen for awhile.. they just aren't soft enough.. not until you're af ew months out... and choose veggies that don't have tough skins, fibrous, or that kind of thing.

Like Darla said.. I have tried regular old chicken off the bird (and some off a rotisserie chicken) and i've puked it up both times. So none of that for a long time.

I've been eating a lot of non-breakfast food for breakfast too.. you just sort of have to if you want to get the protein in. I can eat poached eggs but threw scrambled right up.  Oatmeal or cream of wheat was suggested by my NUT.. you can get quaker oats weight control.. its higher in fiber, lower in carbs, and has added whey protein in it (listed right on the label)... comes in a few different flavors or a variety pack. I'm finding eating that a couple of times a week helps with fiber and keeps things moving.

I just keep going with the old standby's : yogurt, cottage cheese, deli meat.. I did use my canned chicken and put it in a pan with some taco seasoning to make some taco meat.. melted some cheese on it and topped it with sour cream and a little salsa.. it was mucho excellanto...

also made eggfaces baked ricotta bake.. was pretty tastey..

I also buy the no sugar added del monte brand peaches and pears.. i will eat some cottage cheese and then a half of the pre-packaged serving cup of fruit...

if you want a sweet treat throw Jello SF pudding cups in the fridge.. freeze em and later pull one out and you have a frozen chocolate treat!
