need healthy Ideas
For breakfast? eggs (Make some of theworldaccordingtoeggface's quiche bites - you can make up a big batch, then heat up 2 or 3.... or 4, for breakfast!), cottage cheese, one of the protein-enriched cereals, or try something you wouldn't normally eat for breakfast! I know people who have had Lean Cuisine entrees for breakfast!
For snacks, I try to stick to cheeses, beef jerky, Old Wisconsin Turkey sticks or bites, something protein-based. Some of the protein bars can even pass for a halfways decent candy bar!
For lunch and dinner? You know the drill - focus on protein. Beef, chicken, fish, pork, followed by some veggies, and if you must, some form of carb - rice, potato, pasta - but keep those to a minimum (which is WAY easier said than done with KIDS around!!!)
Don't forget - MILK has a gram of protein per oz, and does double-duty as a liquid! And calcium. And if you are so inclined, you can get a protein powder to mix in to up your protein intake for the day! I think a LOT of people find themselves lost in a whirlwind of carbs when they don't get enough PROTEIN in their system - it sticks with you longer!
Love you, chickie baby!

Imperfect does not = unsuccessful
My current fav for breakfast is malt o meal. Add 1/2 c. powdered milk to the water before adding the cereal, adds a good protein boost. I then eat it with just a dap of butter instead of extra milk. This "sticks to my ribs" for a few hours. I can only do the toddler size portion at this time and that is just fine.
I saw somewhere that another interesting snack is to put small mounds of chredded cheese on a baking sheet and bake till melted. Let cool, dap off the grease and they should be crispy. I am going to try this soon.
Ants on a log (peanut butter on celery), pb on apple slices, string cheese. The kids will like these too. No protein in this but I also like to mix splenda and cinnamon and sprinkle on apple slices. Nummm.
Hope this helps. Hugs, Kathy

It sucks that you can't do yogurt. Most mornings are Greek yogurt flavored w/ something and Kashi Go Lean cereal mixed in. The yogurt sort of coats the cereal so I don't feel like I am eating yogurt. During the summer I put blueberries and strawberries in my Greek yogurt. If I am not eating the yogurt I eat a packet of banana bread flavored Weight Control oatmeal (Quaker, I think) with PB2 added. It is my little peanut butter and banana sandwich in a cup...yum! I think Kashi makes an instant oatmeal that is a tad higher in protein than the Weight Control but I am not sure about the sugar content. I also eat string cheese sticks wrapped in deli meat for breakfast. The Jimmy Dean turkey sausage patties are not bad, either.
Lunch is usually something left over from dinner. I also buy habanero/monterey jack chicken brats at the Walmart in Hutchinson and have my husband grill an entire package when he grills other things. I freeze them after he cooks them and bring them to work for lunch. I love almost any left over meat cut up and smothered in black beans and salsa. I just mix it all together in a bowl, nuke it and pour on the hot sauce. Trader Joe's has a chili lime flavored chicken patty (they come frozen in a box of four) that is amazing. When the family is eating fish or something else I don't eat I like to cook one of those. Jenny-O makes a ground turkey patty that is also good. Both of the ground meat patties can be cooked ahead and frozen for a quick lunch. A wedge of light Laughing Cow cheese spread on a piece of deli meat, topped w/ a pickle spear and rolled up is a quick lunch. The other day I mixed Truvia and PB2 to some Greek yogurt and it made an awesome peanut butter dip for apples and that was my lunch. I also cook ground turkey w/ taco seasoning and portion it out into sandwich size zip lock bags and freeze it. I sometimes grab a bag and throw it over lettuce, cheese and black beans topped w/ salsa and a spoonful of Greek yogurt or fat free sour cream for a delish taco salad. Right now I have some pulled chicken cooked w/ taco seasoning that I am using for taco salads.
Dinner for me is the typical dinner stuff...chicken, beef, ground beef, pork, etc. I eat my protein, a few veggies and a couple bites of whatever starch the rest of the family is having if there is room. If they are eating hot dish, fish, venison, duck, goose, etc. I make one of the chili lime or ground turkey patties or heat up one of my chicken brats that are in the freezer.
Since I spend so much time in my car I keep a bag of jerkey in the console so I am not tempted to stop at a convenience store and buy crap if I need a snack. I also keep flavor packets for water in my console and at my desk.
Thanks for posting this question. I look forward to reading everyone's ideas!
