Question About Public Assistance and Procedure!

I am really wanting to get the lap band surgery sometime here in the near future.  In fact I have physical tomorrow and I am going to talk to my doctor about maybe recommending this for me.  However, I was wondering is there anyone that is out there in Minnesota who has been on the counties UCare and have they paid for the surgery and everything that goes along with it.  I figure there is no point in finding out anything about the surgery unless I figure this out!  It would be so great if they did.

I do have a friend that just recently had RNY and she was on Medical Assistance.  I would highly recommend contacting the Customer Service number located on the back of your insurance card.  This will not only let you know if they will pay for the surgery, but it will also tell you what qualifications you will need to meet before they will do so.

I live in Wisconsin and my first time around trying to get the surgery done I had Badgercare and there approval process was less than 1%.  Needless to say, they didn't approve me.

I really hope that it will work out for me.  I will have to call the back of my card once I get it.  I need to do something and normal weightloss is just not working for me.  Can anyone tell me what the basic requirements are and what is NYR or whatever the first person is talking about?

I work for Managed Care for the State of MN and yes the healthplan do pay for this surgery but you will require a prior authorization and you will need to work with your healhtplan (ucare, Healthpartners, MHP, Blusplus) and not MA.
