So Sad!
Hi Darrol,
Good to see your post. I check often but haven't seen anything until now. I was a full timer for about five years but recently had to let my RV go. My last RV was a 34' 2000 Four Winds Hurricane with a full living room slide out. I loved it. After my husband died in 2001 I struggled for two years to keep it, but it just wasn't enough on the little income I have. I sure do miss it though. I'm currently looking for a small class C model. Now that I'm losing weight I think I could even do one of the Toyota models with the cab over bed and finally be able to 'crawl' into the bed. I've been all over the east coast, the south and part of the SW, and into Canada with my RV. I really do miss it. I'd like to get back to fulltiming again soon.
Do you travel much? Alone or with your family? Again, so good to see your post. I'm looking forward to more.
Wow!!! I've been waiting for about 17 months to see some posts on this board !!! this is exciting that there is activity.
We are currently on our 3rd Class A .. A '99 Beaver Patriot 40 ft Diesel pusher which we took possession of 5/1/03. We started just about 7 years ago with a 32 ft used Georgie Boy Cruise Master. George (as we called him) was about 9 years old and wasn't a major financial outlay. We figured we would give it a year or two to see how we liked the whole RV thing, and if we didn't like it we would just sell George and not lose that much on the deal.
As it has turned out, we kept George about 2 years and made our first trade up to a 35 ft diesel pusher (we weren't very imaginative .. the 2nd one was just called George II). We had discovered that yes indeed we DID like the RV thing AND that RV-ing and our interest in NASCAR went together quite well. In 1999 we started going to Charlotte for the Coca Cola 600, and have since added the All Star race weekend and the fall Charlotte races as well. We have been to the night race at Bristol once (and event everyone should experience at least once .. lol), to Pocono (and we might be the oddity, but we actually LIKED Pocono), and most recently to Dover (which is the closest track to us .. only a little over an hour away). We are planning on Daytona next February unless something messes up our plan.
While we love Bucky (you figure it out), we are always looking at new RV's and getting ideas about what we would like the next time. We had looked seriously at a new Gulfstream Atrium before we bought the '99 Beaver but I wasn't impressed by the lack of storage space inside. We have seen an Alpine that has a similar type floor plan (with a mid door which I REALLY like), so that is tucked away as a possibility when it's time to retire Bucky.
We are about 5 years from retirement, and have plans to full time for a while. At that point we will be selling the house here in Maryland and hopefully making North Carolina our home base. Before we set out to full time we will most likely take the plunge and buy a 'brand new' just for us rig and it will have things just the way we want them. Of course, I would prefer to win the lottery and have a custom made Prevost or Featherlite that could be EXACTLY what I want, but I think I'll still be able to find something that will do even without the help of the lottery. LOL.
Well, I guess I have rambled on and on and on here and it is time to hit post!
Hey Darrol
My husband and I also have a diesel but it is a Dodge truck and we pull a 5th wheel. I just got approved for surgery and it will be next month right in the middle of camping season. Any tricks of the trade I can take camping with me? We are Canadian and travel in the States almost more than we do here. We live in a little town just across the river from Detroit and half my family lives over there, so we are travelling there a lot. I am surprised that more people do not go onto this site, I know there are a lot of campers that use this web site. Have a good camping season... Laura Lee Bezaire
Hi Darrol!
We have a 1999 Safari Zanzibar 39 1/2 ft Diesel pusher. We love ours! Safari is made by Monaco, so we know the wonderful quality you are enjoying! My husband is Active Duty Army Reserve, stationed in Kansas. Our home is in Georgia, so, we have our motorhome here in Kansas and are living in it while he is here! We bought it for three primary purposes; so I could be with him while he is on active duty, so that we can live in it during the summer months while in Kansas(he has a small business here as well as the military thing), and to travel in. We are taking it to Florida this Christmas to visit family. It is so much nicer to travel in it than in a car isn't it?? Everything is right there and you don't have to pack!!!
Wish we could just travel, but unless someone wants to give us a couple mil, I guess we will just keep on the way we are!
Anyone else??
Kathy
