I haven't had my surgery, hoping that June/July will be my time, but that's smack in the middle of riding weather. How long has it been for you all before you could get back on your scooters??? I have a fairly heavy bike, V-Star Silverado 1100 and I also worry about the energy and strength it takes to ride afterwards. Thanks all Karen

My doc had me off my bike for a month. It wasn't the riding so much as the possibility of ripping open a seam, as it were, if the bike were to go over a bit and I were to try and stop it. Internal hemorraging (sp) and all that fun stuff. But at a month and a half, felt like I had never been off the thing. Have to say though, after losing 150 lbs, I definitely get better mileage!

Okay, so let me ask you this... Did you have to change your riding style after dropping the weight? I hoping to have my surgery next fall (I'm doing my 6-months right now) so I probably won't ride again until several months (and hopefully 100 pounds) after surgery because of the timing/weather, etc. I'm wondering if my bike will handle, corner, etc., differently because of the weight difference.

Biggest thing I found out that is that my butt bone kills me after loosing a lot of weight. I got a gel pad inserted into the seat to help. it seems to be a common problem. I never knew I had a tail bone Robert

My Doc said after three weeks I'm good to ride wearing a elastic abdominal binder..I imagine it hold us in from too many jiggles it must work like the kidney bands some of us where. HOWEVER to drive he said wait the 6 weeks but make sure I am back to full strength..which how could I be after doing next to 0 for a month-- so when I feel strong enough I will try...Aahhh looking forward to the MN beautiful fall season !! Hi, my doc said it was ok after 4 weeks as long as I wasn't riding a huge hog. At that time I had a V-Star 650, and I tried at 3 weeks, but I just didn't feel quite secure enough, but at 4 weeks, I rode a short distance and did ok. It felt funny going across bumps at first, but just take it easy. I just went out in the garage and sat on the bike with the kickstand up (holding it balanced), and when I felt secure, I knew it was ok. Best wishes, Dorita

Good post Karen! My surgery is set for 5/23/05. This Sunday I went to the garage and hugged my Candy Red Goldwing....told her I wouldn't be riding for about six weeks, but I'll be out to start her up and do some detailing while I recoup. I think the longest I have ever gone without riding in the past is 2 weekends. Here in Florida we ride year round. This is going to be tough! But I know I will be going a lot faster when I drop a 100 lbs or so
