New to Board, Buell Rider
Hi All,
Went last week for my first consult with Dr. Kellum at MCV. Waiting for the insurance pre-authorization now.
I have a Buell Blast. I got it last year with an ulterior motive. My husband was in Hospice care and my son wanted to learn to ride, so I bought it knowing that when he found it too small--it would me MINE, ALL MINE.
My daughter learned to ride it first . But, patience is a virture. Now my son has a Firebolt XRB1200, my daughter has a Suzuki Katana 600 and the Blast is mine.
I have put over 10,000 miles on it, including our spring trip to Deal's Gap, NC--one of the best trips i have taken in my life. This includes several trips overseas.
How long I will NOT be able to ride after surgery? If everything goes as planned the surgery will be before Christmas, so I can use the two weeks I have off (I teach) for recouperation.

Hey... welcome to the boards... sorry that I couldn't reply sooner, I'm trying to get all of my homework caught up and done in advance before I go in for surgery on the 17th.
Anyway, if you click on the post I made (I believe that it was titled something like "just checking in..." or something like that) and scroll to the bottom, there is a reply from a man that rode after surgery.
I have to say congrats on the bike and I love the motive. I hope to see you again soon. I would post more, but it is after 5 am and I need to get to sleep.

Hi Lois, welcome to the board. I'm 5/6 weeks out from the surgery and we've had a couple of warm days here in the Northeast. Sure wanted to take my bike out for a ride! I feel great, but decided not to take the chance. What if something happened that I had no control over? Maybe I'm chicken, but I sure didn't want anything to screw up this surgery. If I take care now, I'll be able to ride endlessly later. I hope that your surgery goes well for you and wish you the very best. Keep in touch!
Welcome to the board!
Although I've not yet had surgery (lap RNY scheduled for the 16th), I posted a similar question a while ago and someone told me they had taken some short trips after about 6 weeks. I think it will depend a lot if the surgery is open or lap - and then on how strong you feel. I ride a heavy bike - so I know it will be good for me to take the winter off to get through the recovery stage and rebuild any lost strength. (I wish I lived in a more temperate climate where we could ride during the winter, though!)
Good luck!
