First Ride

Well we finally had a break in the wet weather and I had time to ride. I took my Vulcan out yesterday for a short ride. It was my first ride since surgery. I'm down 36 lbs and what a difference! I could actually see easily around myself in my mirrors. My jacket fit great, plus I put all the armour back into it (I had to take it all out pre-op so it would fit properly). I only went for about a 25 mile ride and had return home because my rear hurt. It felt great to be back in the wind.

Congratulations Tina, there's nothing like getting back in the saddle. 25 miles is not bad for a first ride of the season. Here's hoping you get more good weather. Steve

Tina; Congrats on your first post-op ride. I'll finally be saddling up for mine sometime this week (depending on the weather). Which Vulcan do you have? My hubby's got a 2001 1500Fi. I think he's coming up about 10K miles on his. Blessings, Jennifer 253 / 187 / ???

I have a 2004 Vulcan 500. It's my first bike as I've only been riding for 2 years now and only have about 1,200 miles on it. I don't ride as much as I would like or as much as I thought I would.

I've got an '04 VStar Classic 650. It's my first bike, too. I'll have had my license for 2 years in May. I think I would ride a lot more if I didn't live in the city. People here (San Antonio) drive REALLY bad and I only really enjoy riding when I'm outside the city on the wind-y roads.

Hi Tina! I remember my first post op ride also! Its just like THERAPY and helped in my recovery. This is such an amazing journey we are on. I am only 4 months post op and am -64 lbs and I just can hardly believe it! I am glad you made it "back in the saddle" ... it means you are on the right track! Hugs Angel J someone pinch me I think I am dreaming!

I'm reading your post a day later, but I took mine out for a ride on Monday. I ride a Vulcan, too - the Nomad 1500. It felt great, but was still too cold for me. I can feel a difference handling it. I'm down 75 pounds since last year, so it was more work to pull/pu**** around the garage, pull it up off the stand, etc. I'll definitely need to be more careful - I don't have as much "ballast" to throw against its weight! I tried my chaps on the other day - I can now put them on easily like regular folks. Before I cheated and put my jeans inside them first! Then I pulled and tugged the two on together! I also took a 6" extender out of the back of them! Ride On!

Great Post Matt! I am currently trying to whittle my way down to a pair of chaps I have just looking at me.. Daring me to get into them. And I will... just a matter of time. Chaps... yes...

A little at a time.......but it felt great didn't it? You'll be back to normal soon. Congrats on the weight loss.
