Sounds like fun, Steve!
Vampire Biker Babes - who would've thought?! I guess it would make you wonder who they would be among normal attendees at such an event!
I can sympathize with the eating too quick and too much. I am still learning the full signal. It usually doesn't hit me for a minute or two after I stop eating, if I haven't over-packed the pouch already.
Riding in the rain is no fun, but I guess that balances out the rest of the day, eh?
Ride safe,
Matt

Steve. Sure sounds like you had a great time. Me and a riding friend rode down to the Grand Canyon last year in mid Sept. had a great ride, until we woke up one morning to a "gully washer" of a rain storm. (If you know what I mean) We waited around the Motel for a while, but it wasn't slowing down, so we left. We got soaked, I was wet in places I didn't even know I had. But we had a great time. We look back on it and say, Yes, we did it, and we had fun. This same friend and I are leaving Sept. 2nd on our "Light House Ride". Leaving Ogden UT, going to Reno NV., then to Cresent City CA. then up the Oregon Coast. stopping at all of the Light Houses along the way. Comming back by way of the Columbia River, Highway 84. We have to be back to work on 11 Sept. We figured almost 2600 miles when we get back home. It will be great to be on the road again. Tired butt and all.

A local bike magazine and television show had their 11th anniversary party today. It was over in Clearwater, about a 30 minute ride from my house. Instead of shooting right over there, I took the scenic route and rode for about 2 hours before I got there. It was a beautiful day to ride, overcast so that it wasn't too hot, even though it looked like we were going to get wet at any time, it never got us. About half way there I met a fellow biker heading the same way, and it only took a minute to realize we had ridden together before. A million bikers in Florida and I meet up with one I had ridden with before, what are the chances?
I get to the party, and there are literaly thousands of people there having a great time, a little booze, some good music, great food(free Bar-B-Q), and the stars from a movie they are shooting here in Florida, "Vampire Biker Babes"; yes that's right, "Vampire Biker Babes". Young beautiful women in little leather outfits,(Imagine seeing that at a biker event)
Well, while standing in line for a huge Bar-B-Q sandwich, it started raining, the funny thing is nobaody got out of line, so we all got soaked waiting for free food. Since there was no place dry to eat my sandwich, I ate the thing too fast and ate the whole thing, and then it hit me, I ate way too much, way to fast. So since I had seen everything there was to see anyway, and I was already soaking wet, I decided to get out of there in case I got sick from eating too much. I rode home in the rain most of the way, but the good news is, I never did get sick. I guess God figured riding my bike 70 mph in the rain, was punishment enough for being stupid. Even though I got wet, and even though I almost got sick, I still had a great time. Come on, Free Bar-B-Q and Vampire Biker Babes, who could ask for more,
How did your weekend go?

Matt;
Must not have been too windy for crossing the bridge! I've never heard of a midnight ride, but that sounds pretty fun.
My husband's family used to have a cabin in Gaylord. He would be jealous that you were there for the night. He misses home this time of year.
Glad to hear you had a safe ride!
Blessings,
Jennifer

Wow!! 2,500 riders cross the bridge - that's amazing! The largest group I've ever gone with was about 225 bikes. That sounds like an awsome ride. I've never heard of one during the night like that. I'm a night person so that would really be cool - and a lot cooler temp-wise too!
Topic: The Midnight Riders
Hi all -
I went on quite a ride this weekend - the biggest one I've ever been on. The Grand Rapids Chapter of the Gold Wing Road Riders puts on a "midnight ride" from Grand Rapids to St. Ignance which is the other side of the Mackinaw Bridge (THE Big Mac) roughly 300 miles. The ride raises money to fight juvenile diabetes. The ride assembled at a local Meijer store - probably 1,500 to 1,750 riders. Additional riders join along the route - they estimate about 2,500 riders cross the bridge. They scheduled gas/food stops about every 60 miles. It was very well organized and other chapters of the GWRR were at the stops to direct traffic and stage the riders for the next leg of the ride. We ended up crossing the bridge around 7:30 a.m. The casino put on nice breakfast for the riders and then provided some tokens for riders to try their luck at slots.
I could not get over the local support I saw along the route! There were folks here and there along side of the road waving, waving flashlights and flags - and this was in the middle of the night! There were folks on top of the overpasses waving, too. Heck, there were even a couple bars the emptied out to wave and show support. It was really cool!
I ended up riding back down to Gaylord to stay the afternoon and night and then back home the next day. I ended up totalling 650 miles for the weekend, which is pretty good for me. I will say it was good to get out of the saddle tonight, though!
Hope eveyone else had a great weekend, too!
Matt
