who is all still riding or is a new rider?  and where are you heading this year?

I ride an ole 82 Virago, 750 , she's old but I love her!

since the board isn't happening much,  please contact me, maybe we'll meet along the road and go - share a oversized meal.

I'm 5.5 yrs out and still can't eat much --- sharing works!

peace, Vickie

I dipped into my 401K last autum for my surgery just before the market plumeted.  Had I not taken the money I would have lost the bulk of it.  Good move on my  part.  Do what ever you have to to take the steps you need to achieve this wonderful recovery phase of your life.  There will always be motorcycles.  There will not always be a you!  Hugs, Nan

Thanks, I Iisted it on craigslist today.  Hopefully it will sell quick.

I have a honda shadow 600 too.  I never thought about being able to ride a different bike after surgery.  I hate riding my husbands sporster but might like it more after I loose a few pounds.  He'd love to have a new one anyway.  Maybe we could get him one and I'll ride his.

With winter just around the corner I shouldn't miss it too much anyway. . .

Thanks,

Jill

Ouch. That is a tough one.  If I were in your shoes, I would sell the bike, have the surgery, lose the weight, then find a bike that will fit you comfortably at that time.  I know right now, my bike (honda shadow 600) fits me good, but what I want is my parents 96 harley nostalgia.  However, with that bike, it is uncomfortable because of my weight.  The backrest as well as the size of the tank end up hurting me a little.

Good luck with whatever you choose. Think of it as by getting the surgery now, you are adding many more riding seasons in the future.

Just curious to get everyone' s opinion. . .

When I met my husband 5 years ago he already had his Sportster.  After one ride on the back, I knew I needed to get my own.  Not only was it way too uncomfortable on the back of his, I knew that I'd enjoy it 100x over if I had control of the bike.  I took classes the next spring, got my m license and bought a starter bike.  Last summer we rode almost every weekend and I upgraded to a Honda shadow.   This summer we've been way too busy and maybe ride once a month. . .

My insurance policy has an exclusion for WLS, and after exhausting the appeal process with no success, I've come to realize my only option is self pay.   I've been researching for months and found a surgeon in Mexico I feel comfortable with.  However, since we are having cash flow issues (along with everyone else in the country), I would have to finance the surgery with a down-payment.

I'm considering selling my bike to cover the down-payment and travel costs but I am having some reservation about how much I'll miss riding.  Anyone have any opinion about the benefits of WLS vs not having my own bike?

Quite possibly we could do one on this board.  I have some leather pants that would virtually fall around my ankles if I put them on today.  I also have an awesome fringed jacket that I would hate to think is history for me.  fortunately for me I have a friend who does alterations!  But in my local wls support group we have a clothing exchange.  As the weight falls off, the need arises for new clothes.  I have a closet filled with "gladrags" from my wls angel and others who "passed" them to me.  I've been passing mine along too.  It's such fun!  I don't think it would fare well to see you in anything but your manly biker garb! lol

I am guessing that after WLS I will still want to remain in guy's leathers. But a leather exchange would be great.  May have to look around to see if any leather shops in the area do that.

Just dropping my 2 cents in. I have a motorcycle (Honda Shadow 600 vlx).   It is nice, but has a little problem with pulling my weight.  Hopefully, next riding season I will be able to scoot around much easier.  (may need to new leathers though).

Wow, Nat, look at you!  You are doing so great and look wonderful!  Isn't this the greatest adventure?  I've ridden a bit.  It's been way too hot.  I rode with my crew to Gulfport Mississippi a couple of Sundays ago.  We went to the Blowfly Inn for lunch.  Lots of Sun, Sand and Sweat!  But couldn't wipe the grins off our faces.  Have to remember to pack the dental floss for those pesky little bugs that end up in our teeth lol!  I don't hang out on the boards so much.  I like the OFF the best but can't deal with all the drama.  There's enough in my own life. Know what I mean?  I am doing well.  Still fighting the urge to eat emotionally.  But ever reminded my doc fixed my stomach not my head!  Sending hugs your way today, Marie
P.S.  Do you guys FaceBook?  I'm Nannyre2U there as well.  I'm able to monitor that site more readily.
