Hi Kenney I think one of the best buys if you dont mind the retro styling is Kawasaki Vulcan VN750. Very snappy drive train like honda you pretty much have to leave the planet to not be able to get parts, and because of the retro styling they are ususaly priced prettey well. I just picked up a 98 woth less than 8k on it in very nice shape for $2200 for my youngest daughter. One more thing if this is your first bike budget for a good safety course and Helmet. I hate helmet laws but won't ride with out one. Get into the Wind

Topic: RE: How about scooters?
Hi DC - I've ridden a couple of scooters - one was the old Honda 50 which I believe I just read has the distinction of the highest sold motor vehicle ever. Evidently they are still manufacturing and selling them abroad. Scooters in the burbs makes sense. We've been thinking of getting one. We live in a fairly small city and my wife and I both work in our community - less than 2 miles away from home. I ride my dual sport to work a lot - a little Suzuki 200DRZ which gets wonderful mileage. I also ride a Vulcan Nomad and it hardly gets warm to go to work one way. In regards to your touring upon retirement, have you looked at the Honda Silver Wing? I was looking at one a few weeks back and thought it might be nice as I got older. But then again, maybe a Gold Wing trike might be even be better!

Topic: How about scooters?
Hi all I know we're a minority, but does anyone here ride a scooter? I started out back in my HS years with an old Cushman Highlander that I paid an old farmer 80 bucks for. Now I'm getting back into riding with a Honda Elite 250. Yeah, it's old, but I like vintage stuff. And being somewhat shiftless by nature , I find that it's a lot better at stop and go traffic here in the 'burbs. I do have a manual Geo Metro that I drive to work on occasion, so working the gears is not a biggie for me. Nor when I took the MSF course. Couple of years, I'll probably be getting one of the Burgman 650's. Plan to do a lotta touring when retired.

I think a safety course is in order also when you buy a new bike Harley-Davidson gives you a one year membership to H O G Harley Owners Group.ealers usually sponsor a chapter where you can meet other riders. Quite often you can get a discount if you join Its a lot of fun and you will enjoy the folks you meeet

Angel, I have to agree with you about the MSF course. A couple of weeks ago, I was riding along and a truck pulled out in front of me, I hit the brakes and my rear wheel started skidding, and swinging around; thanks to the course, I knew what to do and I kept the bike upright. I think the biggest thing I learned was not to panic, keep your head abut you and work through the problem.

Susie; Nice reward for yourself! Congrats on a great loss! I'll third the sentiment to take the MSF course if you haven't already. It gave me a lot of great tools and tips. Blessings, Jennifer 253 / 185 / ???

Angel; Congrats on a good day of riding! I didn't get to log any miles on the bike today, but I did Race for the Cure this morning, so I logged some foot miles. I've got to see if there's anywhere in town I can get my safety inspection on a Sunday. If I can, then I'm giong to head out tomorrow. Blessings, Jennifer 253 / 185 / ???
