Thanks Matthew, I think I'll try powder next time to see if that works. Good weather year round is why I love Florida. You can ride 12 months a year.

Hey Steve - I think I'm going to try some bicycle shorts this year under my jeans for long rides. They're not cotton, which causes a lot of the discomfort by keeping moisture next to your skin. Also, they make some with some extra padding in the butt - which I seem to be losing a lot of at this time! A friend of mine who put a lot of miles on his Wing traveling in the summer told me he always went "comando" when riding distances to prevent chaffing. Same principle of reducing trapped moisture, I guess. I've not done anything more than weekend trips somewhere and back, so I don't really have any advice on what's worked for me. Like you, I suffer through the discomfort and change clothes when I can. Gold Bond powder helps some, too. I've been seeing a few bikes out up here on the nicer days. I'm still anxiously waiting for some steady 50-55 degrees before I bring mine back out of hibernation. Glad to hear you've been able to be out enjoying your bike. I'm jealous!

Topic: A little sore in the saddle
As I posted earlier, I rode my Heritage softail for about six hours yesterday. I took back roads so I only put about 250 miles on it, but I was in the saddle for about 6 hours. I actually rode for three hours, got to my destination, got off of the bike for about 1 1/2 hours, and then rode back another 3 hours. About the last hour or hour and a half I was getting real uncomfortable, my butt was hurting and I was starting to chaff, any ideas how to prevent this next time? I was wearing blue jeans that have never bothered me before, although I have never been on the bike that long in them either. Are there any secrets to long distance riding that y'all could share with a fairly new rider? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Steve

Topic: A beautiful day for a ride
I took my new bike for a nice little ride today. The tempature was in the high 60's low 70's. I left Tampa and took a 3 hour ride through the back roads to Altimonte Springs(orlando area), had lunch with a few friends and then another 3 hour ride back home. Not a boad way to spend a Saturday in January. steve

I've been riding every weekend when it wasn't cold and wet enough to have ice on the road...and I even came across a few patches even then. Of course this has been an uncharacteristically warm winter. Guess there's something to that global warming stuff! I bundle up with a turtle fur balaclava under the full face helmet, and full thermal long johns under my jeans and riding jacket. So far it's been plenty, though I could use some warmer gloves. I'm just running around on a dinky 50cc scooter right now, but just put down a deposit on a used 250cc Honda Elite that I hope to pick up this next weekend. An intermediate step on the road to a Honda SilverWing or a Suzuki Burgman, I'm sure. (I'm partial to step-thru scooters, my knees make it easier for me to step on and sit than kicking up my leg to straddle a motorbike. Plus there's room for carrying a bag or two of groceries and other stuff under the seat.) Deja

Good to hear you finally made it out. I went out the other day. -posted about the new england ride. --It is now 21 degrees out and very cold and windy. I won't be riding again until March so I am very jelouse of you and Steve. I was 1/2 way out for my ride when I though "gas" and registration. Luckly I managed to grab gas in time and never got pulled over. I am down about 70 lbs and what a difference it makes riding. I was always very comfortable on my bike- suzuki 850- but riding the 1100 was a little much. I didn't have confidence in myself. Looks like I am heading to a new bike now. We will see what spring brings. Good luck with riding hope the weather stays nice for you. donna

Congratulations Angel, I'm glad you were able to enjoy a ride. Just consider running out of gas, a funny anecdote. Steve

Wow ! What a day ! I took both bikes out today it was finally DRY! I was so excited to leave that I did not take my Cell Phone or Drivers License ... The Drifter ran out of gas on me and I was so frustrated I did not even think to switch to reserve... Mileage said 74 miles so I figured I had at least 30 miles worth of gas.... WRONG! Hubby had been running bike in garage to keep fluids good... so I had to walk home 12 blocks and get hubby... I got my exercise in today ! Then we switched on reserve (DUH! I am such dumb blonde at times! ) So I then took Twinkle my Yamahog out for spin.... Just the sound of that V Rod engine ...ohhhh I had sooo much fun! LOVED IT!!!! Made it home just before the rain cut loose... come on sunshine I need more!!! But tonight I am a happy girl! Got my ride!! Keep the rubber on the road ! Angel J

I love it too, when I stared looking at Harley's that one kept catching my eye. Everytime I looked at another model, I kept going back to that bike. I actual test drove a Road King first, but as soon as I drove the Heritage softail, I knew that was the bike for me. Good luck today, I hope it's dry. Steve
