Welcome to the board! Although I've not yet had surgery (lap RNY scheduled for the 16th), I posted a similar question a while ago and someone told me they had taken some short trips after about 6 weeks. I think it will depend a lot if the surgery is open or lap - and then on how strong you feel. I ride a heavy bike - so I know it will be good for me to take the winter off to get through the recovery stage and rebuild any lost strength. (I wish I lived in a more temperate climate where we could ride during the winter, though!) Good luck!

Hi Lois, welcome to the board. I'm 5/6 weeks out from the surgery and we've had a couple of warm days here in the Northeast. Sure wanted to take my bike out for a ride! I feel great, but decided not to take the chance. What if something happened that I had no control over? Maybe I'm chicken, but I sure didn't want anything to screw up this surgery. If I take care now, I'll be able to ride endlessly later. I hope that your surgery goes well for you and wish you the very best. Keep in touch!

Hi Kim! You look absolutely fabulous darling!!!! Loved your pics and reading your bio. I'm 6wks out and down 30lbs. I've put my bike away for the winter, but in the NE we've been having a few warm days and I've been wishing I could take a little ride. I'm just too chicken that something might happen and screw up the surgery. It just wouldn't be worth it. So, it just might be a very long winter. I honestly can't get over just how wonderful you loo****ep it up...you're an inspiration!

Hey... welcome to the boards... sorry that I couldn't reply sooner, I'm trying to get all of my homework caught up and done in advance before I go in for surgery on the 17th. Anyway, if you click on the post I made (I believe that it was titled something like "just checking in..." or something like that) and scroll to the bottom, there is a reply from a man that rode after surgery. I have to say congrats on the bike and I love the motive. I hope to see you again soon. I would post more, but it is after 5 am and I need to get to sleep. Veronica

Nice pics! Hopefully I can make it down to the rally in the next couple of years. I just put my bikes away for the winter last weekend. Surgery scheduled for the 16th. Hopefully I'll get to do a lot more riding next season!

Hi All, Went last week for my first consult with Dr. Kellum at MCV. Waiting for the insurance pre-authorization now. I have a Buell Blast. I got it last year with an ulterior motive. My husband was in Hospice care and my son wanted to learn to ride, so I bought it knowing that when he found it too small--it would me MINE, ALL MINE. My daughter learned to ride it first . But, patience is a virture. Now my son has a Firebolt XRB1200, my daughter has a Suzuki Katana 600 and the Blast is mine. I have put over 10,000 miles on it, including our spring trip to Deal's Gap, NC--one of the best trips i have taken in my life. This includes several trips overseas. How long I will NOT be able to ride after surgery? If everything goes as planned the surgery will be before Christmas, so I can use the two weeks I have off (I teach) for recouperation. Lois in VA

Topic: RE: Okay, I'm a heretic---I want a scooter
In the little town where I work, the small independent bike shop can't keep scooters in. He sells about 5 every two -3 weeks. This is a rural western VA county, and that makes for LOTS of scoooters. At first it was high schoolers and now mostly adults snapping them up. He has sold 2 at a time to couples twice. NEAT. I will stick with my little Buell Blast, but I agree--anything with two wheels and an engine counts. Lois in VA

Hey Matt.. I have an 1800 Gold Wing that I started riding 6 weeks after open RNY. Just short rides of 25 miles or less but I did a 2800 mile ride 12 weeks out with no problems. I think the GW is heavier at 850 # with a higher CG. I do have a back rest which certainly helps on the long rides. Best Wishes, Rich
