I'm here!!
Greetings from Oklahoma. I am Cheyenne and had my surgery in Sept 2003, I have lost over 160 pounds. Am feeling great better than I haved in over 30 years. I was glad to find a Native American page. I am trying find a way for the Native Americans to be made aware that this type of surgery cures Diabeties in obese people. I have been cured of it. Diane

I am here now also, I just read the reply from Diane Hawk and I agree. I had my surgery on 10/21/2004 and it has been nine weeks, I am down 80 pounds, and feeling better. I am Cherokee, and was on 160 units of Insulin per day untill I had my surgery. I was in the Hospital for four days and when I got out the Dr took me off of insulin and put me on pills. I took them for a week and that was it. Now I am not taking anything at all. The only thing that I take in pill form is Vitamins and calcium tablets.
I hope that more Native Americans would listen to you Dianne because this surgery came for me just in time. Most of the health problems that I had are correcting themselves, I had gotten to where I couldn't walk for long periods of times, nor could I do the things that I enjoyed doing. Now I have more energy and stamina and feel younger than I have in years. I also agree with Diane Thank God for this wonderful technology that is giving us our lives back
I'm so glad that a few of us are starting to find this section.
I agree.........we NEED to tell our fellow natives that there is a way that can help. Most (like my self till march of 2004 ) have never even heard of this.
As you can see I have just had my lap band surgery. I had it on the 14th of Dec. When I went back for my two weeks visit the doc told me I lost 29lbs. since the day before surgery and 39 total! I could not do that on my own so I am singing the praises for this surgery. My knees are feeling so much better as well as my back.
I was fortunate not to have diabetes........but I do have hypoglycemia which as most of us know can be a pre cursor.
I hope we can keep this board up and let other natives know they are not alone and there IS HOPE!!
