I live about 1 hour drive from the canadian border in Stephen Mn.My family come from the blackfoot ,We were never put on a res because we lived past the 53rd parallel up in hudson bay area.It was grandfather who came down and settle in East braintree Mb .My Dad and Mom lived in Winnipeg and I live about 3 hour from my mom.We card Metis Cards just a little easier to pass the border. But I don't go to often, after 9-11 I don't want to be stuck there if they close the ports for some unseen reasons .I do have a few friends that work as custom officer's and in Immigration .But til a person never know until every thing is safer .I think i will stay put. P.S> Sorry it toke so to answer back,How are you doing.

I'd love to be able to dance too but, I think it's an issue of rhythm. I'm only "Native by marriage" so-to-speak. lol I just don't have any natural rhythm of my own unfortunately. I thought when I had my wls that I'd make a white buckskin dress and be a traditional dancer... but that didn't work out for the above mentioned reason. So I concentrate on herbal medicines and culinary herbs. Right now I'm into the sweetgrass growing. Too early to tell if it's gonna be a successful year for it or not. I'm hopeful though. I'm also growing St. John's Wort for depression this year. Rhia

Selena, Welcome! You'll be back to dancing at pow-wows in no time. Your daughters will be so happy to have you back in the arena. What kind of dancing do your daughters do? I am living one of my wls dreams, to have a garden. This year I planted some sweetgrass!!! I'm so happy to be growing my own supply. I took a plug to the local nursery too so they could grow it for me so I don't have to buy plugs from the mail. I'm very interested in Native American medicine too and have an herb garden. Rhia

hello my name is Selena. I am from the Mohican Nation. I live on the stockbridge Reservation in Bowler, WI. I attend probably at the least five pow-wows a season both of my daughters dance and I hope to start again soon.

Wonderful to see some talk happening in here! Wahoo! Looking forward to pow wow season this year. Only made it to ONE last year! However, my husband took part in his first grand entry. I was SO proud! I got a photo and everything. Then my daughter and I went out and "danced" around the circle once with him. I'd like to do more dancing but I don't have rhythm! I watched these tapes that teach the various steps, I get them down pat in my head, then get out there and look like a fool. Guess that's due to only having honorary Native blood. lol I'll stick to making herbal concoctions since that doesn't require the SAME kind of rhythm. Rhia Do something to make someone smile today, you'll be glad you did!

AHO My Sister, I have three nations in me, Blackfoot...Cherokee and Choctaw. I completely believe in the Native American ways of herbal medicine. I love the pow wows, my son is Little Dancing Eagle. I haven't danced in many moons because I was embarrassed by my size. I had a gastric bypass on 02/04/04, and I'm getting my dancing shoes ready for the next Pow Wow. AHO for Oceanside, California.
