Topic: RE: Tricare or Triwest question and those who paid it themselves!
Hello:
I cannot say I am familiar with TRICARE'S standards for WLS. I ended up having
mine at a MTF, as it was less than 100 miles from where I live. I would have perfered it locally, but all in all my treatment was great.
Best of luck and I am 3wks post op, and my BMI is just NOW getting down to yours at 38..................... still so far to go
Be safe.

Topic: Tricare or Triwest question and those who paid it themselves!
what are the requirements in order to get the WLS paid in a military facility?
I know other insurance companys only cover if you have a BMI of 40+ or have a BMI of 35-40 w/some kind of other complication.
I have a BMI of I think 38. And I have PCOS. So I have a higher risk of getting diabetes....
TIA!!

Topic: RE: insurance
Hi: I just had WLS (literally on Tuesday 2/7) at NMC San Diego. The only fee that I will be charged is for FOOD..........LOL 1 oz of jello/broth/juice for a day. The psych after TRICARE paid was $30 which my work insurance picked up. Other than that, TRICARE has after reading elsewhere at this site, an easy insurance.
Best of Luck
Heidi

Christen...
The only pre-op testing that I had to do that wasn't done AT Balboa was the psych eval...and tricare covered it...100% no copays. I saw Gloria Harris in Pacific Beach....but alot of the others saw Vicki Nevins in Mira Mesa.
Everything is covered...don't worry.
No copays, either. Well...I haven't run into any problems.
Topic: RE: insurance
usually no co-pays for tricare. Most you would have to pay is $100 to see a nutritionist.
Topic: insurance
ok if you have tricare or triwest and have the wls at a military facility are there any copays or anything.
Topic: RE: WLS @ Balboa NMC anyone?
Oh Wow! Hi Heidi! I saw your name and had to say hi...LOL. You used to be the ombudsman on my DH's ship, USS Peleliu. You were so kind to me during the last westpac with the video teleconference thing. My little newborn baby from then is now two and a half! I havenever forgotten that kindness you showed me...just wanted you to know that.
Anyways...
I am having surgery at Balboa too and I have heard that its not too bad of an experience at all. I've finished all my pre-op stuff and have my pre-op appointment scheduled(2/26). My doctor is Dr. Groves. Who are you seeing?
I know everything is going to go just great for you. Best of luck and keep in touch!
