Labor Day Weekend
Mornin yall, Many of us have a 3 day weekend coming up. For me a much needed respite from life's daily grind! I plan on doing a lot of sewing, and taking care of Diane. That would entail rest, exercise nutrition and relaxation. I am cutting up my fat clothes into 5 1/2 inch squares. On graph paper I made the letters PHAT GIRL that will be the center focal point of the quilt. I am doing the letters in dark colors from my jeans and pants, surrounded by the lighter colors. The borders will be done in clothes left at Gigi's (that's what my grands call me) over the years that they have either outgrown or no longer want. I just couldn't throw them away!! Now all those memories: my daughters clothes she gave me when she lost weight, my grandson's first church tie, my granddaughter's bright orange bathing suit, DKNY T shirts, one tiny white sock, etc etc... will all be memorialized and forever saved and cherished in this family quilt. Will it be fancy? Heck no! It will be priceless. Can you see the children, all grown up and many years later, looking at this Labor Day treasure I am creating.... thinking... hey!!! That's the shirt I left at Gigi's when I was 14!!!

Happy Labor Day my Friends! Love those babies! :)

I am glad you like it!!! Certainly not a new idea, quilting quips have been passed down through the generations. I taught both my granddaughters how to sew. Took them to a fancy fabric store and let the choose their own colors and fabrics. They cut and sewed under my guidance. So nervous under my watchful eye were they!
I assured them that they couldn't hurt that old 1965 Morse sewing machine and there was no mistake in sewing that can't be fixed. The girls were so proud of those pillows and carried them back home to show Mom and Dad at the end of the summer. After they returned to Florida, I went back to that fabric store. I used their fabric schemes and made them each quilts to match those pillows for their birthdays that year. It's called planting seeds and watching your garden grow. That's our job as Grandma's!
Blessings,
DianeF Diane -
Sounds like will have a lovely week-end. I really look forward to seeing your quilt.
