Like the other posters, I too had very little pain. I had a lap RNY and the only pain I remember feeling was right after I woke up from surgery and felt like someone had punched me real hard in the stomach. Which I guess you could say they kind of did!!! But of course they give you pain meds and after some sleep and the meds, I felt fine. It really wasn't bad at all. And the sooner you can get up and start walking, the better you will feel too. I didn't have a pain pump in the hospital like some did but my surgeon did send me home with a prescrip for pain meds but I didn't have to use it any at all. Every person's tolerance for pain is different of course, but I'm sure you will do just fine. Don't worry and good luck to you!

I had the lap RNY as well. The pain was a stiff soreness for me, nothing unbearable at all. What helped me the most was once I was able to start taking things by mouth and I switched over to oral pain meds, they were great. Oral pain meds taste like crap but manage your pain and soreness longer and without making you feel loopy, so you can get up and walk around so much easier.
Like someone else said, the more you walk after surgery the better you'll feel. So take the first oppertunity they give you to get out of the bed and get moving. You'll start small, but any movement you can make will help.
Good luck getting your ins approval quickly hon. Keep us updated and feel free to ask more questions.
