Itchy Itchy Incision sites/scars....

Hello everyone...I hope everyone is ready for Christmas. My question.... I am healing really well from surgery (3 weeks ago today!) and my incision sites are DRIVING ME CRAZY.

They are sooooo itchy. I cant seem to find a lotion that soothes them. I've also heard that if you scratch them they will scar. at this point...I dont care!! I just need some relief!! I kinda like the lil footballs all over my stomach. LOL Anyone have some suggestions?!

Try some benedryl cream.

Good idea Barb about the mittens... I am seriously thinking about doing that! I am miserable. I will look at benedryl cream too! wheeew...I sure hope something works!!! Thanks! Connie

Lotion is a bad idea since your 3 weeks post op. Call Tammy and leave her a message asking what you can do. I had lot of this and incision pain and I wil told it was coming from the internal stitching. I still have a good amount and it's been almost a year since they opened the incision. Good Luck and Call Tammy.

I didn't even think about the internal stitching...!!! Thanks very much!! It really hasn't gotten bad until today. I will leave tammy a message. Thanks!!! I'm just asking.. but why would lotion be bad? they appear to be closed..??

When you can while sitting around, use ice packs. That helps numb the areas. I survived with ice packs... kept several so I could rotate them in and out of the freezer.

Wendy thanks for your idea.. I've been meaning to tell you that this worked for me this week. But just as soon as I take them off... itchies start up again. But I'm sure keeping the ice packs on my tummy!! Thanks! Connie

I had the same problem except it was my entire belly. I had lots of bruising... anyway, my docs office said to take liquid benedryl. It helped some... but only time will get rid of it completely. Alice

I had brusing also. But now the itching is taking over. I will get me some benedryl I think. I gotta do something. Oh...and I have realized it is my entire belly. Thanks Alice

Connie, You can take Benadryl by mouth. I also used Benadryl cream and didn't have any problems. Dr. Bauman told me to use it. I had that reaction to the Benzoin/Steri-Strips at one week postop and would have clawed myself raw without the Benadryl (internal and external).
