Hi I've been on my pre-op diet since last friday and I am going stir-crazy!!!  I'm getting 60-80 grams of protein each day but I am still starved to death.  Last night I just cried for about 2 hours until my poor husband just didn't know what to do so I made up my mind I can do this I've only got until Tuesday.  Oh God if I can just make it that long.  I am so scared I am going to screw something up and my surgery won't get done.  The first few days I did not do entirely liquids but I did have some sort of protein food(Chicken, eggs, etc.)altho not much at all. I am suppossedly on this to shrink my liver so I really hope it is doing its job.  I think i wouldn't be so stressed if I new there was a time when I could eat again, but this is until surgery and then ya'll know how I'll have to eat then!  I know it is a mind game and I just want to say my mind deserves a raise because it has been working it's ass off!  Just needed to get some of this off my chest and try to distract myself(help from my phsy) well it worked for a couple of minutes.........Hugs, Debbie
edit: oh yeah to day I have been very lightheaded too, I've checked my blood sugars and they are doing fantastic any ideas? I'm just scared of fainting and then having to try and get up!  LOL not easy at my size now

Hi Deb,

I know that this is sooooo hard and while it's hard to do, I know that you can do it because so much is at stake. It is so important to get that liver to shrink and what you are doing is going to make your surgery so very much safer and will significantly reduce the chance that you might have to have an open procedure.

As you said, I think trying to distract yourself is a significant tool, but also try to focus on the reasons that you are doing this. Remember that we have all been there and it is doable. You can and will do this, it's hard, but they tell many that anything that is worthwhile is expensive ... I tried to remember this myself while I was on that awful liquid diet.

Hang in there,

Barb

P.S. If you are going nuts try scrolling through the before and afters on OH ... It helped me focus on the reason I was doing this.

Hello... I just wanted you to know, I am thinking about you in my thoughts and prayers. I just finished a two week liquid diet, due to the revision I had this past Tuesday.... and yes, it is so hard.... but please don't give up.... just stay as busy as you can... thats what I had to do... also, when I felt lightheaded, I drank Gatorade and that really helped.... Wishing You The Very Best!!! Take care.... Mike

Well I am happy to report to you, the liquid diet is NOT going to kill you...LOL It is the head hunger that will kill you!!! And actually it is making you healthier each day you are on it!!! Im not sure what liquid diet you have to follow, but there are a few of us...(Dr. Penders patients at E.C.U.) that had to follow a VERY VERY strict diet of Optifast!!! The nastiest stuff you'll ever consume, but yet they consisted of declicious, strawberry, vanilla, chocolate and chicken flavors...LOL and we got, if i remember right 3 cups a day....NO FOOD or other soups or anything else whatsoever!! Excep****er and Crystal LIght!!! As Barb said, most of us have been there in some way or another!! Remember you are not alone and it will be soooooooooo worth it in the end!!! I PROMISE YOU!!! One of my horrible experiences was when I leaned down to "SMELL" a grilled cheese sandwich that my hubby was cooking about a week adn a half into the diet, I started crying uncontrollably!!! I just wanted 1 freakin bite and it literally broke my heart that I couldn't have one...LOL but life went on and I am 4 1/2 months post op now and down a total of 102 lbs. since the begining of my journey this year and down 93 lbs. since i started my liquid diet..so in 5 months, ive lost 93lbs.....tell me that won't be worth it girl!!!! HANG IN THERE!!! Best of luck to you!!

Hey Deb:

Try to space out your wonderful liquid shakes so that you are not going 6 hours one time and 3 the next.   Also, keep plenty of water nearby and drink that which will keep your stomach full.  As Jamie said, it is the head hunger that is getting you.  We normally eat when we are stressed and with your surgery only 3 days away, I am sure your stress level is up.    Keep calm and busy and drink gallons of water if you have to.   Have faith that you can do this.

I got through my 3 weeks on 4 slim fasts a day with chewing gum and lots of water.  The chewing gum helped with cravings to chew and the water helped keep me feeling full.  I waited a full hour after I drank a shake before I started in on the water.  I didn't want the water to wash out the full feeling too soon.  Not sure if it helped, but it made me feel better.

Take care and realize that this too shall pass.  You will not regret doing this for yourself.  You are a woman and you are strong, you can do it.
